Only place open - dry as a bone
Two friends and I did a 140 mile round trip as this was the only course open due to the incredibly wet weather we’d had.
To be honest I was skeptical as to what condition we’d find the course as the recent weather had been terrible. Everywhere else we’d called had either closed holes or temp greens, so was delighted when we got to the practice green and there wasn’t a squelch to be heard. Actually saw a golf ball bounce on a fairway for the first time in a couple of months, staff were very friendly, and there was a huge bar area after. Speaking to a couple of members they said it was the wettest the course had been for 10 years, and yet it’s dryer than any course I’ve played since last summer. Would highly recommend, will be back!
Fantastic views
Given its belted it down for what seems like months, this course was in superb condition, The pro in the shop was extremely friendly as were all the members I met out on course. Great facilities, great atmosphere and most of all great views. A pleasure to play.
#2 inland course in Wales for a a reason!
I arrived with great anticipation as I'd been eyeing this place up for quite a while now, it far exceeded my expectations! 100% worth a visit.
The course was designed by James Braid & Harry Vardon who've got a bunch of Open championships between them. It's nationally renound and is currently ranked the #2 indland course in Wales, easy to see why.
The greens were immaculate, and the fairways & tee boxes
superbly kept. A huge congratulations to the groundskeeping team.
A really challenging, but super fun course, with breathtaking views at almost every turn. Proper variation in the design too. A great mix of long and short par 3/4s and testing par 5s. The bigger hitters will find a few drivable par 4's, (not for me unfortunately). But beware, there are plenty of thick ferns and trees to catch a stray one off the tee.
Hard to say which one is the feature hole, as there were so many. Loads of elevated tee boxes, hitting over hazards and blind second shots.
Fantastic condition for the time of year
Fantastic condition for the time of year, greens were lovely, approaches were superb. Despite all the rain in the previous week we only saw 2 puddles on the whole course. Definitely our go to winter course now
oh those hills !!!
We played the first weekend in Feb, and were really lucky with the weather..it was truly a perfect day for golf.
What a great shame this course is 2 hours from home (in the Black Country), I would certainly play it much more often if it was a hour away. There are three great things about this track.
1. Greens are really / really superb.
2. Elevation changes are immense, a really great test for your work off the tee and fairway shots, you really do have to think about club selection.
3 The par 3's.... some really REALLY great par 3's, we played off the back tees(White), and three of them were 200 yard+ holes. 4th is a gem, playing 220 UPHILL. Walked off with a 4 feeling very satisfied. (only to watch the lads behind us play up and one of them missing an ace being 6" short of the pin !).
A warm welcome from club staff and members, rounded off a super day out.
Outstanding value for money
Course was in excellent condition even when most other courses are closed. Greens were blemish free and super fast, especially for December.
The layout is also great, loads of different types of holes, each hole is built around the land rather than squeezed on.
Well stocked shop and professional was friendly, bar was also warm and felt invited by other members.
Strongly recommend!
Favourite course
I honestly couldn't recommend this course more; every hole is different and the views are stunning.
The greens were the best I've played on this year.
Great Sunday out having a knock
Very friendly members, very windy conditions for half the round, but just added to the challenge , a great course and very enjoyable round, would like to return, shame its not closer.
