Not the best.
Could be a tidy treck, bar the last three squeezed in holes! Tee boxes poor greens poor and very very slow. A good course for learning on, as there were some interesting combinations of dress code, ranging from PE kits to the more traditional. Shame really as said before tidy first 15 holes. ( bar greens and tees)
Sorry
Walked off after 10 holes
Needs a lot off TLC. Also would advise that you need to invest if you want to charge your charges. Buggies or electric trolleys a must. Played Swansea bay the day before and it out shone this course 10 fold.
Needs a vast amount of attention
Played here a few times over the years. This course is in need of some desperate TLC. Tee box’s need changing positions, Fairways are like hitting off the 2nd cut and the greens are like putting on the fairways. So much potential but seems no one is bothered to give it the attention it deserves. Charging £22 for the course is over priced would say no more than £12 in its current condition.
Greens need seeing to
A nice course , quite challenging. Greens were in poor shape. No facilities due to Covid. Not worth 23 quid.
Gone completely down hill!
I’ve played this course twice this year, once towards the beginning of the year and once 2 weeks ago. Both time the course was in awful condition. Fairways were worse than most roughs in other courses and where they had bothered to cut the grass mounds of dead grass lay everywhere. I’m surprised they re opened in the condition they have after Covid as they haven’t even put the tee off markers out! This used to be such a good course which I played regularly when I was younger which was why I gave it a second chance this year! Course still has lots of potential but doubt I’ll be returning for the foreseeable future.
Gone to the dogs
Well where do I start returned to st Mary’s after 2 years which then I I thought nice well looked after gem on my return what a difference the place was appalling to start the practice net was all torn we got to the first tee there was no tee markers the which is just pure laziness the tees where in a sorry state the fairways were not cut the rough off the fairways were just like a jungle all the bunkers were all unkept when we got to the greens the hadn’t been cut they were really slow and spongy and it looked like they had a problem with insects chewing up there greens Also the flags had not been moved for a long time as there was a divot right by the hole on the last stopping the ball going in it was the most unenjoyable round of golf since the lockdown and a place I will not be returning to to top things off as we was walking off the course we noticed that 1 of the workers was pulling out weeds in the hotel garden this course needs a lot of work to get back to where it should be we payed £16 for this disaster absolute robbery sort it out
Course untidy
I played this course 2 years it was in good condition, went and play yesterday the course was in bad way, there is no tee markers, the bins are covered over so there is a bit of rubbish around. The greens are very spongy and slow, they need a good cut and there is holes everywhere on greens from animals.
Course in disrepair
This is a tough one - the course clearly needs investment and could be excellent. However as it stands, it holds very little appeal. The poor condition is summarised by the driving range as you walk in - completely overgrown with the wildlife having even taken over the bays. It's inaccessible. The tee boxes were generally okay. The fairways were as long as I'd expect a first cut to be, with greens like fairways. The bobble was so bad it made most putts unreadable. The bunkers either had no sand, or coarse builders sand, in generally poor condition.
If this was very cheap, it'd be tempting purely for convience sake. With several courses in the area being cheaper on GolfNow, St Mary's is impossible to recommend in it's current state.
Nice course
Some greens could do with work but overall is a nice course. Shame I can't hit a iron to save my life on it
Shocking condition!
Have played here over the years but this place has really been let go, the greens are as bad as a chip and putt course, really not worth the money. There are fair better courses around the area that are kept well. If you’re thinking about playing here...don’t!!
Has so much potential
played this course for the first time today and unless I see some glittering reviews I won't be playing again unfortunately. Its a tricky little course in layout but how the condition of the course was today made a tricky course extremely difficult. No tee blocks out on the tees which isn't normally a problem but it has led to very bare tee boxes as no where has had a chance to recover. Fairways and rough seemed OK, although the im sure I didnt see a fairway that had been cut in the last week. No sign to say if bunkers are GUR or not but they haven't been maintained at all during this covid-19 period. Finally I come on to the greens, shocking really is an understatement, the majority of cups haven't been moved is months by the looks of things and from this were starting to grow over. Golf is hard enough let alone when you make the hole smaller. The greens had been recently overseeded but this seems like a futile effort as they can't have been cut before the seed was put down as it was all sitting on the surface. The greens were slow and bobbly and extremely boggy in places. This place needs a serious amount of work to reach its full potential but im sure when it does itll be a cracking course and a real hidden gem. But until that day I won't be playing here again unless they considerably drop the price of green fees to the £10 it really deserves.
Poor Condition
I have played here before, and it has been good value for monry. However the course was in very poor condition, the greens uneven, bobbly and sandy, and a lot of the fairways more like light rough, and the tee boxes terrible. Pace of play was awful, with the course packed with people who could barely play golf.
Nearby Cotterell Park is in far better condition, and I would also advise anyone to try Code Y Mwstwr instead.
Very challenging par 69 with some really well thought out holes. Only downside was the greens were very spongy and therefore very slow.
What a gem!
Played the Championship course mid morning on a Sunday. Despite an extended period of heavy rain the week before, the course was in great condition with very few soggy areas. The fairways were closely cut with plenty of run despite the previous weather. The greens though recovering from some grass disease ran quick and mostly true. The course layout provides a test for all levels of player, and while not the longest course there are enough holes to get the driver out and launch one if you can keep it fairly straight! Would highly recommend a round at St Mary's, and will definitely be heading back soon.
