Island at Silver Spring Country Club
About
There are two 18-hole courses at the Silver Spring Golf & Banquet Center, the Island Course and the Falls Course. Opened in 1986 as the West Course, the Island is the original layout at the facility. At nearly 7,000 yards from the back tees, it is considerably longer than the other course but both offer a fair amount of challenges. Mature trees line the fairways and several ponds provide water hazards on several holes. The Island Course's new name comes from its trademark feature that appears on the signature eighth hole. This hole is widely known for having the only naturally occurring island green in the state of Wisconsin. It is an impressive hole though there are plenty of dramatic elevation changes and strategically placed bunkers to contend with throughout the golf course.

Had lots of fun!
My son and I got paired with a couple of nice guys. We had a few beers and kept a good pace. Greens where nice. Being with my son made the experience so much better.
A hidden gem
Nice course. Had a few very long par 5’s, tight par 4’s, and wind challenged par 3’s. Course was in great shape. Greens nice. Carts lacked and no cart service or clubhouse food. However, the staff was amazing. Very friendly. It was an enjoyable day. 10/10 recommend playing the course.
What once was
I loved silver spring for a long time but sadly they opted to sell the half of the course to a developer. As a result all the playing pressure is on the island course and it shows. Previously it was all about golf with 2 golf courses and a wedding venue, but now its a wedding venue with a course. I get you have to follow the money but that path led this place astray. It was a special place.
Fun course
Some good holes. Greens not overly difficult. Mostly in good condition but some of the greens need some love regarding ball marks. I’ll be back to lose more balls on the island!
7-8-2023
Nice course, but a little unorganized and the course maps were not helpful. The reservation said GPS was included, there was no GPS on the carts
The Falls
The Falls course is closed and will be developed for , I believe residential development My daughter worked in the pro shop so I played a lot of golf there. The Island course is still there and is still open for business.
Very poor
There was no starter and for a 10:39 tee time we didn’t tee off until almost 11:00. The pace of play was really bad with no ranger keeping groups on schedule. Overall course layout was fine. Conditions decent. But no where worth the $60 a person we paid.
Do NOT Golf Here
I booked for 2 in advance and paid up front through GN. I get there and the guy in the so-called “clubhouse” tries to charge me for the round a second time. Every time I go the course conditions get worse and worse and the pace of play gets longer and longer. This used to be a very good course when it had 2 courses. Now it is mid-managed and the course has gone to S&@T! Don’t waste your $ or your time.
First Impressions - The Island
Arrived as a corporate event was about to go off. It was organized chaos and managed nicely. I checked in and given a cart and asked to come back for course assignment. The putting area was nice sized but crowded due to the event. Got my tee off details and went off #10. The course was in solid condition given the limited rain this season. The greens rolled true and held good shots. The course is tight and will punish wayward shots. Pace of place was average especially given the event going on. Things that lowered my rating are as follows. No on course water coolers were available. Cart girls were available but would like option for a cup of water every few holes. Club house has very limited selection. It’s is barebones. Will definitely play again for the price.
Solid course, better options in the area for the same or less
Carts are in rough shape,
greens were in great shape
Fairways average
Would play here again but the MKE COUNTY courses are nicer for less $
Enough challenge for all
I was lucky enough to get a deal with Group Golfer and at $18 this was an absolute steal. I understand the normal rates are not this cheap, but even with standard pricing the course is worth it. When teeing off at 1:30 on a Friday I assumed playing as a solo I would have to wait. With this in mind, my wife rode along for company and they allowed her to ride free of charge, another nice perk. The pace of play couldn't have been better on the first nine. We never saw anther group ahead until 11 when it came to a halt. Play was still moving but after the blistering pace of the front nine the roughly 2:30 back nine must have been some sort of payback. We were still able to finish in about 4 hours, which on a Friday afternoon was a pleasant surprise.
The course itself can stretch to one of the longest public course in the area. Although plenty of length it's still playable for the capable golfer and there aren't a ton of forced carries of the tee, unless you really want to play aggressive on 9 and 11. The course has decent elevation changes, it certainly wasn't built on flat ground. The drop from the teeing ground to the fairway/green on 1 and 10 indicate this right away. One of the best signature holes is the island green of hole #8, easy to see where the course got its name from.
The course has a good handful or really interesting holes with variables to consider, carry distance, elevation change and wind play into roughly 6/7 holes throughout the round. The tees, greens, and fairways were in really good shape as well. Having played this course for the third time I assumed the conditions would be good and they met all expectations going in. The course allows for you get be a little wild of the tee, although able to find your ball most times getting back into position can be tricky.
On this particular day they had the outdoor grill going and the food was absolutely delicious. The chicken sandwich and chicken bacon wrap were real food, not your average turn food. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience from start to finish, glad I was able to make it out there this summer and will be returning again.
Great
For the number of people on the course there should have been more separation, w/e beautiful fun , great day in October in Wisconsin
