Petrifying Springs is the flagship Kenosha County Parks. It is the oldest and largest park in the system, enjoying a stunning landscape of deciduous trees and rolling green hills. The 18-hole golf course was opened in 1936. Enclosed by abundant trees, the course is scenic to say the least. The peacefully secluded atmosphere provides an ideal round of golf. The layout boasts a "sporty" design that is challenging but playable. The fairways are lined with trees and strategically placed bunkers frame the well manicured greens. There is the occasional water hazard one a few holes but water does not pose a major threat. Petrifying Springs is not the most formidable test, but it is great for a casual round with a spectacular setting. The golf course is also one of the area's better values.

Beautiful setting. Especially the back nine.

I love almost everything about this course. The greens are too slow. Take those greens down two notches on the mower, and the course would be fantastic!

Great Course Especially for the Money!!!

"Pets" is a great course. The greens are always in great shape and the course has a character about it that provides enough of a challenge for the average golfer. For being a public course that's maintained by the county, it surpasses many other courses that are more expensive. I never hesitate to golf at Petrifying Springs!!!

4th of July weekend fun

The course was in very good condition. Everything was nice and green especially the greens. The few bunkers that are on the course were soft and had quality sand in them. I was paired up with a father and son who were great guys to play golf with on a Sunday. I also had the chance to participate in the caddie program. So, i had a young man by the name of Will caddie my round. It is the first time that i have enlisted the services of a caddie. I never thought i was a good enough golfer to have one. However, it was the experience that trumped the actual thought process of only good golfers have caddies. I really like what Petrifying Springs is doing for the total golf experience. It is affordable. The course is in good shape and it provides an enjoyable but challenging layout for the average golfer.

I would also like to commend the starter (Mr Adams). He did a great job of getting everyone off at their designated time as well as try and keep the pace of play in order. Sundays are difficult to do that with and especially a holiday weekend.

So overall great experience and will play the course again when i'm in town.

Beautiful county course

Great terrain: elevated tees, elevated greens, pitched fairways, tree-lined (but fairly wide) fairways, blind shots (hills and dog-legs) -- with all this, the course has reasonable challenge while still being fairly forgiving. One of my absolute favorites in S.E.Wisconsin.

Front nine and back nine head opposite directions from the historic (built back in CCC days) clubhouse, but rejoin for the last two holes of each. The front nine ends with a pair of par 5s (the only 5s on the course). Numbers 8&17 you drive up a steep hill (used for sledding/tobogganing in winter!) to greens hidden beyond til your second (or third) shot. On numbers 9&18, your second (or third) shot will have to avoid a large sunken pond (the only water hazard on the course) which narrows your approach to the green by half or more. (Watch for the markers staking out the boundaries of this hidden hazard!)

I LOVE Pets!

This is the first time I used GolfNow. Loved it. Made things very easy. I grew up by this course and had not returned "home" to play it for years. There were some changes, but not too many. All the changes were very good for the course and pace of play. Hats off to Pets!!! I can't wait to go back. For a county course it is a gem.

tougher than it appears

course was in very good shape; greens consistent and held nice; first time on this course and will definitely come back; although not long if you don't hit it straight you could be spending 4 hours looking for balls; some very challenging holes

Short & Sweet

This course doesn't play long, but has enough challenges to make for an interesting round of golf. The greens will make you play smart. ,Very nice conditions - a relaxing, beautiful place to play. They have Marshalls that gently nudge along slower players - much needed at many courses - but a lost art, it seems. Staff is friendly and well trained. These same folks run Brighton Dale, and the atmosphere is wonderful at both spots. Free yardage nooks are a nice touch, too.

Very scenic and short.

This course is fun to play but has alot of downside.
There are alot of holes with blind shots either fairways or to the green. I'm surprised more golfers aren't hit with balls. We made the turn at around 4:30 and ran into more than one group that was told to play the back. I don't think it is rangered very good.

well maintained course

The holes are long enough to be challenging but the fairways are wide enough to be forgiving for the casual golfer. Well maintained course, friendly staff, nice facility, picturesque location.
Very impressive for a city course.

Great course to play

Was at the course earlier this season and the condition just seems to be getting better. Not to say it was bad the first time I was there. I love the Kenosha County courses, the best ones around. Especially for the cost. Now if Brighton Dale would allow single player hot deals.

Sporty Economical Course in Decent Shape

I had a 706 tee time We thought it unusual to have 2 two some

both walking) in front of us instead of 1 foursome. Condition of the fairways and greens was very good. Pace was decent despite the walkers in front. Only complaint is their management allowing 9 hole golfers to tee off the back. Our back 9 was slower than the front as we had a Dad with 2 young beginners in front of us.
