The Meadows course began as a 9-hole course named Lakeside. Designed by Alexander H. Findlay, it opened for play in 1911. In 1923, Seth Raynor redesigned the course while he was on the property updating The Old White TPC and building the original Greenbrier Course.

In 1962, Lakeside was expanded to an 18-hole routing by architect Dick Wilson, who used dirt excavated during the construction of The Bunker to expand the course. Years later, in 1999, Bob Cupp once again redesigned the golf course, at which point it officially became known at The Meadows.

Greenbrier-Meadows 5/14/23

Perfect condtions on Mother's Day 2023. 72 degress. Partly Cloud.
We had one twosome of members play through us, but otherwise saw no other golfers on the course.
Tees and fairways were in great shape. Greens were average, appearing to have been aerated within 4-5 weeks, I would guess. Rough was high and, along with the stacked sod bunkers, clearly the course's defense.
This would be a great course to enjoy and play if you didn't have the $300 green fee in the back of your mind. It's just not anything special beyond a $100 semi-private course you would play back home. The starter and clubhouse attendent were very friendly and helpful, but beyond a handful of tees and cheap ballmarkers, The Greenbrier does not present itself as a top notch resort course. No towell in the cart, etc.

The Meadows is back and better than ever

The new-look Meadows is a pleasing success story in American resort golf. The horrific floods of 2016 that claimed almost two dozen lives also caused upheaval at America's Resort, and getting the golf courses back online was a huge priority in the wake of the deluge. Thanks to superintendent Kelly Shumate, who redesigned the course by incorporating parts of the old routing and a few holes of the Greenbrier Course, the new Meadows is a solid complimentary piece to the Old White TPC. The 39 stacked-artificial-sod bunkers dictate strategy, and the undulating greens provide plenty of interest as well. Job well done.
