Blue Heron Golf Course
About
Blue Heron Golf Course, formerly known as Carnation Golf Course, first opened in 1967 but underwent a major renovation, in addition to the name change, after it was bought in 2011. Located in the Snoqualmie Valley, the course would occasionally be overrun by the Snoqualmie River but thanks to improved drainage and irrigation features added in the renovation, the course is able to drain remarkably fast. At just a few yards shy of 6,000 yards, Blue Heron G.C. is on the shorter side but that is no indication of its level of difficulty. Golfers will face a variety of challenges including an abundance of bunkers strategically placed throughout. One of the toughest holes is the par-5 17th, which is a blind tee shot where a long iron might come in more handy than a driver.

Blue Heron
The overall coarse was in good condition; however, the greens were just sanded. Had to play the front 9 twice. The coarse has a fair amount of short holes. The greens are large with many contours and slopes.
Encouraged by new changes
The course itself is in good condition, with well-maintained greens and fairways that provide a challenge for golfers of all skill levels. What really stood out to me were the brand new golf carts. They added a touch of comfort and style to the day, enhancing the overall experience. Whether you're a serious golfer or just looking for a relaxing day out, Blue Heron Golf Course is definitely worth a visit. Highly recommended for its enjoyable layout and decent facilities!
Much improved
Blue Heron a fun course that isn't as busy or expensive as other courses in the Seattle area, so my wife and I enjoyed playing there. However, last year it was tough to get a working cart. This year they got new carts and are more attentive to the grounds--nice improvements. We plan to play there more this season.
Slow play nightmare
My 9:30 tee time started at 9:40. No starter present so I worked myself in. Still, I needed to wait at each tee following. The twosome ahead of me paired with the twosome ahead of them. Still no relief.
As I rounded the turn, they asked if I wanted to slip ahead. Excitedly, I did. Only to wait for more slow play. As I finished 10 I was thinking that I may get waved ahead again. But no, the group ahead of me was waiting for the 11th green to clear.
I waited. And as I watched this group finally go, I could see they did not care about slow (or fast) play. I was trapped. So for the first time in my golf career; I quit a round early.
I did go into the clubhouse and report the slow play. I asked if I could go off the front 9 again. But no. This coarse has no concept of merging groups to increase the pace. So I went home after playing 10 holes in just under 3 hours!
I doubt I’ll come back due to the severity of the slow play.
Nice round of golf.
Recent days of rain did not do the golf course any favors, but most of the fairways played very well. On the back nine there were a couple holes with patches of standing water. The greens were in good shape & rolled out well... maybe a little slow (which suited my game). I play this course regularly & always enjoy it. This course may appear easy, but many holes are tricky & many of the greens are ruthlessly small & challenging! The Blue Heron Golf Course is a hidden gem, in my humble opinion.
Great value but...
I like playing Blue Heron (Carnation). They've made a lot of improvements over the years.
This last round I was disappointed about a few things:
-Yardage markers need to be more visible, e.g. white stakes and blue stakes along the fairways
-Greens. Not well kept, some mowed some not. Also, some had leaves all over them and some were blown clean.
-Fairway grass. I hit a perfect shot on #9, middle of fairway. When I found my ball it was in tall grass (rough).
-DON'T ALLOW GOLFERs TO START ON THE BACK 9. I played in a three-some, no one in front of us on the front, then go to #10 with 2 groups on the hole. ALSO, condense golfers into four-somes and stop with 1-2 golf groups when possible.
Never again
Went to play blue heron again because it usually isn’t as busy as other courses. The last time I played here they didn’t have any carts left. We had to wait an hour after our tee time just to get a cart. This time I played twilight and they wouldn’t let me take a cart since it was after 2 pm on a Sunday. Course is mediocre but cheap to play. Course isn’t in great shape and all my putts were bouncing from the poor green conditions. Probably won’t go there again
Rough is an understatement
Sorry to do this but it was just bad. Like all around bad. Back nine closed due to water. Tee boxes hadn’t been mowed in like weeks. Greens were so not fair that I left. Golf is hard enough to not even say auto 2 putts would have been kind. Played here years ago and won’t be back. Like ever. Sad
Lot of Potential
I personally like this course and am excited to play in the summer in slightly better conditions. Course is is pretty good shape, but some tee boxes were under repair and the greens just need a little love. Staff is friendly and helpful!

Course is fun but leaves during the fall can make it a bit difficult
Course has good rates and was in fairly good condition for the fall with the following exceptions:
1. Multiple layers of fallen leaves were on almost every fairway. I picked clubs based upon trying to avoid the ball landing in it.
2. The greens were very bumpy almost like it was fairway grass.

Stay Away after big rain storms
Part of the course was still flooded making fairways and greens a bit shaggy. James, in the clubhouse, is a gem!!!
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the flooded areas on the course and appreciate your feedback. We're glad to hear that James provided excellent service in the clubhouse.
