Strange shot values

I know this course gets a very high rating because many of the visuals Are outstanding but from a golf point of view, the shot values leave a lot to be desired. This mainly has to do with the very difficult topography the architect had to work with on the slopes of Spruce Mountain. I’ve played the mountain course about seven or eight times now, and I simply cannot recommend it as a golfer who is really into golf course architecture and has played many of the classic golf courses in the US and around the world. If you fall into this category, be. prepared to be disappointed. Sadly, repeated play only deepens this impression.

One of the best and most scenic in northeast

An amazing day on this mountain course. The views on the higher points in the course on the back nine are stunning. The course is not long, but it makes up for it with wild greens, huge elevation changes and superb conditions.

It’s worth a stay at the lodge and to spend the day on the links.

Not long, but difficult

6400 yds from the tips, which based on the scorecard doesn’t seem challenging. 73.7 and 151 from the tips should get your attention. Mix in some strong wind, and this is a very difficult golf course. Course was in excellent condition. One negative was that this is no driving range. They have a hitting net. Putting and chipping area use the same green. Putting green is very nice, but ball marks all over from people chipping and pitching. With all of the room at the property a range would be nice.

This Course Has It All

One of my favorite courses that I have ever played. The conditions are immaculate, The tee boxes and fairways are perfect. The greens are incredibly fast, consistent and true.

It is a short course but still very challenging with a lot of blind shots and elevation changes. Incredibly fun layout with some good scoring holes.

The views are so good throughout the course that it becomes challenging to focus on your shot, especially around the middle of the back 9 as you reach the highest elevation on the course.

Staff is awesome and friendly, if you stay at the lodge which I did you check your clubs with the valet, they show up at the course on a cart for your tee time, and end up cleaned and back with valet at the hotel after your round.

If the course has a downside it is the cost, $150 if you are staying at their lodge is expensive but a great deal for this course, but the $270 greens fees if you're not staying at the lodge is steep. Having said that, the greens fees are for unlimited golf, not 18 holes so book yourself 36 and it easily becomes worth it, you will not regret it!

WOW!!!

43 years old and had the chance to play some beautiful courses but this is one that tops them all!! From the first hole to the last it is breathtaking!! The staff does an outstanding job with the maintenance on the course. There wasn't a blemish on the greens and they were rolling at 12 to 13 minimum. Michael and Dan in the pro shop are first class gentleman eager to help in any way. If your going to visit Stowe during golf season, you would be missing something truly special if you did not play a round or 2 on this stunning layout.

Nicest Course I've ever played

I've played some pretty nice courses, but the mountain club is hands down the best course I've ever played. The views are unreal. The course is in perfect condition. The staff is super friendly. Love it here.

Perfection in every way

Well this was a real treat. Played recently with the Delaney group for our final 36 holes of a Ryder Cup style golf tournament for the “Stowe Stein”. It took me until hole 6 to stop obsessing over the views and beauty of the course and focus back in on the tournament. The first tee in the AM with water to your right over looking fog rolling off the mountains is as pristine as golf gets. The course can be very challenging on many ways including tight fairways, hazard carries off the tee (back 9 especially for both of those) and fast greens. That being said the course plays perfectly and fair. The greens rolled smooth and were soft enough to hold iron shots despite their speed. The sand traps were top notch, tee boxes perfectly maintained, and the entire experience was excellent. While team USA did not come up with the “Stowe Stein” victory, I hope to return next year to get revenge in the name of America! Thanks to the friendly and helpful staff for welcoming us and we cannot wait to return in 2019!

Pristine Course with beautiful Views

Love this course, it has some of the best views and conditions of any golf course in the world. Having one accurate 210+ yard club in your bag will make the back nine (and the whole course in general) much easier. Overall one of the best courses I've ever played!

Beautiful and Challenging

This course may be short in length but is very long on scenery. Nestled in the hills surrounding Stowe's ski trails, the mountain course offers hole after hole of absolutely stunning views. Put the driver away for many of the 4s and 5s as what seems to be a perfect drive gets lost well beyond the green. The greens were fast and fun. Strong recommendation to play if you're in the area.

New favorite course

Played this course last week with a group of buddies and had more fun than I've ever had playing golf (despite my score). From the moment you arrive you are treated like royalty, and the course gets better the higher you climb.

Staff: Golf staff couldn't have been nicer. Knew the course so well, treated us like we were regulars, and made sure we stocked with water when we started and passed through on the way to 10. The bar staff was new so it was a bit slow but very friendly and attentive.

Conditions: The course was just in pristine condition. Wonderfully green, incredible both to look at and play on. The views alone are worth the round. When we got to the top of the 1st green and looked back to see our 2nd foursome way below us on the tee box we knew we were in for a treat. The front nine climbs and then descends around a beautiful lake, while the back just seems to climb forever until you can see for miles.

Course: What a course. The holes played short and demand accuracy, as a long drive will often put you in danger. For the most part you can use mid or short irons, and then hope (pray) for a good roll down the fairway. The greens played straighter than their counterparts at Stowe Country Club, but could be just as fast. Prepare to lose some balls.

Favorite course ever!

An absolute spectacular experience. Amazing layout, with even more amazing views. A definite fun and challenging course. IF you check your ego and listen to the yardage book advice and hit the recommended tee shot, even a casual golfer can have a great experience here.

SPECTACULAR

Our golf group was fortunate enough to be able to play 36 holes on the Stowe Mountain Course this past week and it was amazing. The views were absolutely gorgeous. The greens were PGA like as the pro said that they were running at an 11 on the meter. We got hit with some heavy rain right before we teed off so it delayed our start. But once the rain moved on, the course was still in great playable conditions. No puddles or water collection anywhere. This course was designed perfectly and drained very nicely. The course is definitely difficult but the views are so worth any lost balls you fall victim to. We played the Blue Tees and that was a great challenge for our outing as we have some avid golfers. But we also had some casual golfers play the white tees and that was a great move because the decrease in distance really made their rounds more enjoyable. Great course that I would play again and again and again. No tipping allowed though and that sort of hurt because the staff treated us so well that we would have liked to show our appreciation. But overall, you're crazy not to try this place if you ever have the opportunity to.

Views with a Challenge

An amazing setting for a golf course. The views and conditions are on an elite level. It is very challenging with narrow fairways, blind shots and fast greens.
Be sure to read the Yardage Book for each hole (provided free by the course).
The staff on the course is very professional and accommodating.

Stowe Mountain Club

One of the better courses I've played. In excellent shape from tee to green. Staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. Spectacular views from every tee box. Challenging, but if played from the correct set of tees, it will be a golfing experience you will not forget.

BEST IN STATE

I live 2 hours away and make it a MUST to play this course twice a year. You will NOT play another course like it. From the 1st tee until the 18th green you are in for a treat.
You are treated like you should be at a 5 star resort. They have bottled water and apples on 2 holes. Pace of play is always great. Only downfall is you must stay at the resort in order to play Course.
If you ever get the chance, Stowe mountain is a must play!

over priced

see tips as well as for $250 you get 6 prov1's golf cart course book that two of the wholes have no relationship's to.... because of course changes all the greens had been cored and one of the fairways had workers and machinery on it, so it was unplayable,,, the worst thing for me was that all the new carts had beeb cleaned so well BUT, Amourall was on the steering wheels and you could not get a grip on your clubs and it ruined the whole round, they changed my cart for another one which had the same problem only less slippery.
Never ever again!
