Cheap Golf
if you are tight with money and don't mind hitting off of rocks and gravel, this course is for you. Wear a helmet though because many holes are back to back with no barriers. The greens aren't greens, they are grays. Must be near a school because lots of young people playing which is good to see but be prepared for their antics such as the walking foursome ahead of us not offering to let a single player on a cart play through. Good signage and cart paths though.
2nd Worse Course in the City
There is no grass on any of the course. Its mostly dirt and rocks. 18 holes are crammed in here, so fairways of previous holes are right next to each other with no rough. I actually got hit with a ball while waiting to tee off on the 7th hole from the fairway of the 6th.
On the 2nd hole, a woman berated my wife because we were playing our fairway, and she was waiting for us to move so she could hit over our fairway at the green for the first hole.
Most of the cart paths were washed out and covered with mud, and tee areas were under water and not moved.
The only place worse in town is Woodlake Golf Course.
It's good for beginners
Course is a good start for someone new to golf.
They do have a great driving range.
course review
I've played golf around the world. This one is THE ABSOLUTE WORST. Rating 1 thru 10, it is a 15. Can't believe you do business with them.
Good price
Great course for he price we paid to play. Fairways completely bare and greens were okay.
Website Misleading
Has to be the worst, I mean lousiest course, I've played this year. Website is very misleading. Staff needs some professional training. But at a course that needs so much maintenance and repair I guess they have little concern about the customers at this point. Fairways were dirt, some times no grass within 30 yards and that grass was normally just weeds. Greens were dead and absolutely zero consistency. Took my grandsons and son-in law and was quite embarrassed for the course and myself for being so misled.
Alamo course
I like the layout of the course and the greens have improved but the fairways are horrible. Nothing but rocks and dirt. I play there sometimes because it's so cheap.
Avoid this course
Save your time and money and don't play here. Course is in terrible condition. Non - existent fairways and it is very tight and compact- you could easily play the course hitting at different greens. Rocks everywhere including right down the middle of the fairway. Virtually no grass anywhere. Greens were ok and fringe area wasn't bad, but it was impossible to find a spot to hit an approach shot from that didn't have rocks. Driving range was nice, could definitely get some work in there, but as for playing- no way.
Horrible
Worst golf course I've ever played. No grass In the fairways, rocks everywhere. Lack of maintenance makes this course dreadful to play. Don't waste your money. Play someplace else.
Worst course ever
It was cheap enough but it's like playing in the middle of a field, very little grass and it's hard to tell were to hit the ball.
a waste of time
This course was in terrible condition. The tee boxes had no grass. No grass in the fairways. Lots of rocks and dirt to damage your clubs. Non existent water hazards. Do not waste your time or money playing here. The only positive was the driving range.
Are you serious?
I couldnt believe there was literally no grass on this course for the first 9 it seemed. The greens were more like "Browns" and it was just packed dirt and rock for the rest of the course. The course would be fun if you didn't spend 10 minutes a shot looking for your ball because the glare off the white packed mud/dirt makes a fairway drive a nightmare? It became funny after being embarrassed that we were playing on this course for the first hour. It was almost like being on death row, you know its no good to complain so just go with it after a while. To be honest, for 20 bucks I get what I deserved, low end play. This course should be called college fest with a drinking penalty per hole for every ball you lose in the fairway. My clubs hate me for playing this course. Your browns keeper should be executed!
worse course ever
I have never played a course worse than this one. There was no grass in the fairways, you never knew what your ball would do because of all the rocks. The greens were just as bad. A putt would track towards the hole, then hit some unmowed grass and go right or left drastically.
Worst Course Ever
Worst golf course I have ever seen or played. It was literally like playing on the moon. Driving range and staff are friendly but DO NOT PLAY GOLF HERE.
Don't do it!!!!!
Please do not play here. It is the worse course I have ever played. Very disappointed.
This course has a great pace of play.
I played quietly in this golf course. The fairways are in bad shape, the greens are good and the design is good.
Nice place to relax and enjoy this game.
Great Potential! Practice area great but course is needs facelift!
So I frequently practice out at Alamo Golf Club but have only played the course one time. Actually, I only played 8 holes because it was that bad. The fairways are rock and grass is fairly nonexistent except on some greens and so I was forced to quit because my irons were getting so banged up. With that being said this track is huge and has great potential for a facelift. Let's just say I'd love to see the Alamo City Golf Trail buy this place out and put it in its rotation.
With all this said, the practice facility is 3/5 stars but it too has great potential. With a massively wide double decker range with both mats and grass stalls I can hit balls out there for hours. They also have a large putting green (that needs to be smoothed out and resurfaced) that "could" be a great place to hone the flatstick. Finally, there's a short game area too as well as a 9 hole par 3 course! C'mon people get this place into better shape and you will see San Antonio golfer's flock here just to practice!
All in all, I'm giving Alamo Golf Club a "Fair" 2/5 star rating because I personally enjoy practicing here and hitting wedgeshots at the barrels they have at 40-60-80-100 yards. Plus, on your drive in you'll almost always see a ton of deer. And who doesn't like deer?
Inexpensive course, but rough
The years of drought in South Texas has not been nice to this course, there are lots of bald "scorched earth" patches through the front nine, and rocky fairways on both nines. Overall these conditions made it challenging for me, meaning my wife was fussing about it but I just played though. I guess one positive I can take out of the dryness is the extra 50-75 yards of roll you get on the drive, HAHA.
Deer Feces Galore!
This course is actually pretty decent for the price, but we did go when it was wet and cold. The course itself, I'm hoping will eventually be maintained since there were several areas that should've been grass instead of the hard dirt that we played on. Also the golf cart we had, had a hard time going possibly from the motor or battery. Last but not least, there is deer feces everywhere. The deer are part of the course which is cool to see but they freely roam on the course so there was feces from the tee to the actual hole. Besides these things, I'm hoping the next time we visiti, it'll be much better. Still, you pay for what you get.
I agree. So much potential to be a great practice facility. It would be awesome to have Alamo City buy it out and put in some work on the place
