Fun lay out

I don't know who takes care of this golf course, but the last 3 years our group has been out there off and on it's been one disappointment after another. I can't understand why they can't get their can't get back to normal. When I used to play there years ago it used to be a primo golf course. Now it's more of a goat ranch. Good golf course for young kids to learn how to play on. But as far as players like us it ain't worth the time and money and frustration. This was the last time we'll ever go back out there.

Pam in pro shop great!!!

This was my first time back in about 2 years. The course lost its greens around that time, so I avoided it like the plague (no pun intended).
Today I was pleasantly surprised by the course conditions. Although some areas were slightly wet, balls didn’t plug. Greens were decent.
However, the savior of the day was Pam in the pro shop. She went out of her way to assist me with a second tee time for a group of 4. There was a several folks behind me, but she was diligent on finding us a spot, which she did. Thanks Pam, it customer service like that, that keep folks coming back.

Poor Experience

The course itself wasn't in the worst shape. There were a few dead spots or burnt out grass in the fairway, which you would expect this late in the summer in Texas. Few greens had a few issues and were bumpy, but not overwhelmingly bad. After all, this is essentially a municipal course and for $50 on the weekend, I am not expecting a round at Augusta National.

The worst experience was the Marshall. He was a complete jerk. He demanded to look inside a cooler, after we told him we did not bring anything but water in it. He stopped us multiple times, saying we drove past the makeshift signs that said "no carts beyond this area." We were following the rules. While we were on the putting green towards the middle of the round, he got into one of our carts and moved it 50 yards down the cart path because apparently there was about an inch of tire on the grass. He was yelling, "It is not that hard to listen to me." Well, I'd say it is not that hard to not be a complete jerk.

This is the first time I've felt the need to even leave a review on this site. I respect the people that work hard in this industry and I love this game, however, this was just a poor experience. I will never play another round at this course again and would encourage you to look elsewhere if you are booking in this area. Cypresswood, which isn't too far down the road, has two courses and a staff that run laps around Oakhurst.

Fine layout, greens choppy, marshall harasses the golfers.

The good: course is an interesting layout and mostly in decent shape.
The bad: greens were horrific a few months ago but prices accordingly ($35). Getting much better as of now, however a definitely a few that have major dead spots filled in with sand or just hard dirt.
The ugly: Marshall demanded to look into our bags to confiscate any outside beverages, including water. Yelling at players for approaching the “no carts” stakes without being on the cart path... the stakes were set 100 yards back from the greens. Screamed at a group for driving off the cart path to pass another cart near the green. Based on his temper tantrum you would have thought they drove the cart through the bunker and and parked it on the green itself. It was no surprise that I saw a few “cart path only” signs that had been pulled from the ground and placed face-down by groups ahead of us as a way to say “thank you” to the Marshall for his positive and encouraging attitude.

Going Downhill Quickly

This course used to be in great shape, but over the past few years it has gone downhill tremendously. The greens have huge dead spots and areas that are in disrepair. The bunkers are filled with construction/fill sand that is basically mud all the time regardless of weather condition. The fairways are ok, nothing to write home about. Not worth 60 bucks on the best of days. Not following Covid protocols either, improper mask wearing, and pairing random groups together, along with requiring cart sharing.

Worst greens in Houston!

Greens are choppy, bumpy and inconsistent! Fairways are ok. Sand is good in some holes and unplayable in other's. For a challenging tight course the last thing you need is horrible greens that don't reward good shots! If this were a $15 dollar course I'd understand. But the prices indicate that it's a course worth the money.

Winter in texas

For December 6 the course was in great shape. The greens are receptive, smooth to putt on. Speed was a little above average. The lay out plays to both fades and draws. Very large greens. Make you really pay attention to flag’s placements.

Lay out good conditions horrible

The course is in awful condition. Most of the greens are mud and sand. They charged $53 and honestly it’s not worth $10 right now. I would definitely check with people who have recently played before going back.

Great Course Conditions & Well Managed

Golf Course was in great condition despite some reviews. Staff is Exceptional and The Breakfast Taco and Hamburger are the Best around. This facility is well managed, better than some private area clubs. The Director of Instruction, Janean is outstanding. Family Friendly and the course is in nice community. Great Value Memberships and super email golf specials. Houston's Best Kept Secret & Value for Sure.

Oakhurst

very hot 100 degrees heat index. tried to park in shade. 90 degree rule in effect. everything was fine until the marshal showed up. he proceeded to tell us to stay on the path and sit in the heat. he followed us around the entire round to make sure we were on the path. He the n proceeded to talk to us about, beer drinking, I always bring one [1] beer for our 4some we crack it at 11, most rangers don't mind but this one made us throw them away. but having said that, the greens are real slow and have acne. Won't ever go back.

Greens were Terrible

If our group would have been told about the Greens conditions we would not have played the course. Granted it was about 11 days after torrential rains in the area, but most of the greens are elevated. Basically they were bare...fairways weren't bad. The value should have been around $25-$28...certainly not $53.
