Not as bad as expected
Overall the course wasn't bad I was a little unhappy once I saw that they had temporary Greens on hardpan which made no sense but wasn't the worst course I've ever played end up running into a group of five that were playing a scramble and still seem to play slower than God knows what
This course is awful.
I went to this course on a Saturday morning expecting to spend enjoy a round with my father and brother only for It to have been the worst kept course we have ever seen. Entire fairways were mud pits, no grass, and multiple holes on the front 9 closed. The course upkeep is horrible and I will never play this course again. If my name was L.E. Ramey I would be ashamed to have my name attached to the course. It’s so very unfortunate that as a resident of Kingsville I have to drive to corpus for a playable course.
Ouch!
I be played hundreds of courses and this was the worst by far. No grass. All mud. My ball went 90 degrees on the green when I hit a tuft of grass. It was awful; even for a “hot deal””. Naval air base beside the course. Jets non stop. Honestly needed ear plugs. Would highly recommend you at Tee Off end this relationship. Thanks. Donna
Nice weekend play
Fix the fairways and this course would be perfect. the dirt patches are a real turn off.
Course Needs Some Love
I realize that there has been a ton of rain in the past 2 months, but it has been a couple weeks since the last rain, so I'm not sure why the course appears that it hasn't been mowed in a LONG time. Completely overgrown unfortunately. Balls in the rough were extremely difficult to locate and balls were also sometimes lost in the grass in the fairway as well. A couple of holes are undergoing renovations and updates with new sod, but turf is lacking in the fairways on a number of other holes. It appears that the greens are also being repaired on some holes as there is quite a bit of sand/seed on many putts. Not a good sign when you hit an approach shot that lands on the green and splashes up sand as though you landed in a bunker. I only paid $16 to play/ride, so the cost was in line with the experience, and I hope that this course is able to rectify its issues, but it was a challenging layout in its current condition.
Great course layout if you don’t mind playing on dirt
I’m visiting Texas from Minneapolis and at our condo was the yardage book for this course. I liked the layout and the holes seemed challenging. We’re in Corpus Christi about 45 minutes from the course so I decided to get go see this track. I was surprised when i pulled into the parking lot and there were 6 cars parked at 9:00am! After paying $24 for green fee and cart I drove off to the first tee. I try to play a few holes before making a judgement but this course was in such bad shape I could hardly call this a golf course. The fairways, or what they call them, are mostly bare ground. You have to look around to find any piece of turf. Most of the greens are dead. They really should learn how to water their course. After nine I was going to hang it up but I ran into a foursome of great guys and they asked me to play with them. The back nine was just as bad as the front but the company was wonderful. These guys were all locals and were just as negative about the courses condition. One of them said when the course opened it was considered one on the best tracks in southern Texas. The course is owned by the city of Kingsville and I think their spending tax $ on other things than community recreation. I loved the layout of the holes. Too bad they forgot how to maintain a golf course.
Rough shape, but can’t beat weekday price
The course is a little rough. Traps haven’t been raked in weeks, maybe months based on the weeds. Lots a bare dirt, but it’s south Texas so that’s gotta be tough. During the week it’s 30 bucks for two golfers and a cart for 18, which is hard to beat. Weekend prices are a little higher so not as worth it.
Cheap price and lackluster course
The course is good for a quick round if you are stuck in Kingsville but there are much better courses in Corpus. The greens are in rough shape, fairways have numerous dry dirt patches and the rough is usually too long to spot balls. The driving range is just some crudely cut grass making each shot either a dirt shot or a rough shot. I'll go again but only if I don't have the time to drive to Corpus.
This course has a few holes that will challenge you, and is a lot of fun.
If you play from the championship tees this course will challenge you more than a few times and force you to play smart on a few holes- if you play from the men's tees it is a lot of fun. The fairways are in poor condition at the moment, but the greens are not too bad. For the money it's a good place to play and a lot of fun. If you are looking to play a really nice course, Kingsville is not the place.... Corpus Christi has a few very nice ones to choose from.
