Beautiful layout
The coarse is young but has way to may unplayable areas. They have work to do to call themselves high end coarse!

It was a great layout. They are doing some work on it so several messes up places. Need to play it after the grass greens up.

Great course in poor condition
Fairways had too many bare spots, very sandy soil which is common for this area of Texas, and greens need help. Granted this course has been upgraded but it will probably be at least 3 years away from being a course that demands the price they charge. The potential for being a great course is there but not at this time. To get me to return would be a price that correlates to its current condition. Don't get me wrong because there are many courses that charge too much when condition of play is poor.

Winter Round
Course is not up to par, slowly going downhill last couple years. Its early Feb. so still recovering from harsh winter. Most tee boxes were just reseeded, sign of good things. Not sure fairways will get back to its glory days, Still one of the best tracks in the area

Greens need some work
I played this course two years ago, and fell in love with it, for the money we spent and the conditions of the course I could not have been more happy, played it this last weekend, and although the fairways were decent shape, everything else was definitely not worth the $110 we paid. Greens seem to be struggling, and there were several dead spots throughout the whole course on the greens.

good day
the course had to much maintenance going on.tee boxes were move around,didn't know which one to play..to wet around the greens..some of the players were skipping around to different holes.coming up behind us while we were teeing off (not happy)

Finally Got To Play Tempest
Have been wanting to play Tempest Golf Club for a few years now, but just never fit into my schedule. I had heard and seen so many great things about this course, and was so excited to finally get to play it.
Upon arrival I was impressed with the club house, so good start! Easy check in and staff was friendly. Driving Range was closed for some reason, so no warm up, but no problem. Chipped and Putted a bit and then tee'd it up!
Course layout is outstanding! Lots of elevation changes, and a couple of blind tee shots. Greens were in awesome shape, but the fairways were a bit soggy in spots, and there were quite a few bare spots throughout the course once you got out of the fairway. I had heard that this summer was tough on the course, but they are working on getting it back to pristine conditions.
Aside from some wet fairways, and the bare hardpan areas just off the fairways I was very impressed with the course, and do plan on returning at some point, but will probably wait until course repairs are finished.

We just began our Sprint improvement period and hope to have the fairways resodded in the spots you mentioned. We also recently hired one of the best superintendents in Texas who we feel will capitulate Tempest to the next level of premium Texas courses.
Great course but be careful getting stuck in between slow players. Could have been a one time thing but it went from a 3 hour round to a 5 hour round.
Thank you for your comments Jacob. We look closely at pace of play every year and moved our tee time intervals to 10 minutes in 2024. So far the interval increase has appeared to make a big difference in reducing round times.
Good value if you can get a discount
I wouldn’t pay rack rates for this course. The fairways and tee boxes are bare in some areas. Pace of play was very slow when we played. We were behind a 2-some that morphed into a 6-some by the end. Never saw a marshal.

How to play a course in 5 hours.
The course itself is in phenomenal shape and you’ll have more than enough time to see it because you’ll have to wait 10-15 minutes before playing each hole. The Marshall does not do a single thing and Randy Wade overbooks the course because all he cares about is money. But if you have 5 hours or more to spend playing golf, then my all means, this is the course for you.

NOT WORTH IT
Honestly, I drove over to play this course because of the reviews. Was I playing the same course as everyone else? Rocks all over the fairways, a lot of them are mostly dirt and clay. The staff here was EXTREMELY rude especially the bar staff. Probably because we weren’t their “regulars”. For the same price go to Mount Pleasant and play or to Longview somewhere. This is NOT worth the price. The only thing I can think is that people who claim this course is nice just haven’t played anywhere except a goat ranch.

Do not play if you’re a single.
The course is fine, but unless you’ve got 2 or 3 playing with you, be prepared for a 5 hour round.
