local playing local for first time
I played 20 yrs ago, hurt my back and quit after 2. So I was impressed on the natural settings, Course has funny cart path . Nasty par 3 on 7. Cactus farms, but that's the norm. # 10 shook me, going down the driveway. Good rustic, classy layout... pretty too.
I would recommend just for the challenge
Very nice!!
We were greeted by a lovely gentleman in the clubhouse whom was very helpful and extremely nice. Went out to the course and has a great game, loved all the sloping and water, it made for a challenging round..and not to mention the beautiful scenery. We will be returning!!!
I Miss This Place
I had a membership at Gtown CC many years ago, and the course and facilities have really improved. The clubhouse has been recently remodeled, and I've never seen the course in better condition. It's a unique course with it's own charm....I've always enjoyed playing there.
short course
Very short driveable par 4s. Tight course, target golf. Greens are in good shape just very compact and interlocking fairways.
Great Course
The course was in great condition and the greens were of good speed. Course did have some challenging holes with water and tree combinations. I look forward to my next play there. Great overall
An old, old course from 1927.
You quickly realize that courses that were established around 1927 +/- were created a little differently. Basically, they were shorter with minimal room between holes. I'm sure this made walking the course easier back then. But today, it just creates problems. With better clubs, longer shots, and carts in play -- you may find yourself in the line of fire a time or two on this course.
To start, there's no driving range. They had one chipping green that didn't appear to be open and one putting green. The green was of decent size but had some invasive grasses which caused it to be on the bumpy side.
The tee boxes and fairways also contained a mixture of grasses. A good number of the tee boxes had been beaten down a bit and were pretty chewed up. This course is almost certainly the shortest I've ever played. They may have four tee boxes but the back tees are still only 5400 yards. But on the plus side, that makes it a lot easier for walkers. Again, the tees and greens are almost all right next to one another. In fact, on more than one occasion you wouldn't move the cart from the green of one hole to the tee box of the next; weird. You'll have some elevation to deal with but that's to be expected. Being an old course, the fairways are a little narrower; you really need to make a larger number of target shots off of the tee than normal -- you can't just bomb it. And on a good number of holes you'll need to be aware of where the water crosses a fairway, runs along the edge, etc. Speaking of the river/creek/ponds, be careful driving the paths across them as they can be a little treacherous. And finally, you won't have to deal with any bunkers on the entire course, no sand.
The tee shop is of average size but that's okay because no one spends a lot of time there anyway. I didn't really get to check out much of the overall facility. I did see a nice dining room with a bar, an outdoor pool, a couple of tennis courts, and storage buildings for members' personal carts. One thing that was nicely set up is a covered deck with tables, ceiling fans, and a TV on which to watch the game. That makes for a good 19th hole spot in nicer weather. The old guys up there today were certainly enjoying a cold one or two while watching some Sunday football.
For the right price I may play this course again. But in all likelihood, I won't be back simply because there are far better courses in the area for the same or less money. That's just how it is.
Hidden Old School Course
Short track, with a lot of holes that play into each other and a few par 4's you can drive the green to. The greens had a lot of issues when I played or I would have given it a higher rating. Considering everything else around, it's fun to play once or twice but not somewhere I would want to join. Probably fun to play in tournaments on or play with a member ever so often. Very scenic course with water running through most of it. It's just old and not maintained like a country club should be.
This is a pretty hill country course
I thought this was a private course but, saw on GolfNow.com for $14 and had to go play it. It is a pretty course and is kept up very well.
Scenic Views of Georgetown
This is a short but demanding old style course that is very scenic and fun to play...no forced 200 yd carries.
