Not sure what some reviewers are expecting

The reason the cost I show is ZERO is because I payed thru my golf league who played here Sunday May 29th.
First of all, Greater Houston area has gotten a tremendous amount of rain in the past couple months. It was CPO, to be expected, but not a tremendous amount of water standing in the fairways. Considering the wetness, the fairways were some of the best I have played this year. The greens are spotty but rolled very true. We had a horrible freeze just a few months back, which is uncommon for this area. Many many area courses greens are in much worse shape that Beacon Lakes. One thing to remember, they do NOT accept cash, credit cards only. The snack bar is out of soft drinks completely. Have beer and other snacks. Don't know reason for soft drinks being out, didn't ask. The course is getting a tremendous amount of play which should be an indication that not everyone reads the rough reviews given here on GolfPass.
Would I play the course again...definitely. If I were paying green fees of some of the other courses (whose fairways are not in nearly as good shape), maybe not. Their greens will come back. But, the course is fun to play, Has character. And, if you can find better elsewhere for the same price...then go there.

Beacon lakes review

The owner is an absolute joke. The greens are in terrible condition so he has Decided to start painting them to make them look like that are in better shape. He is also one of the rudest people I have ever seen to his employees. You can find much better courses around the area at a better rate.

Go elsewhere

Well we played at Beacon Lakes Golf course and I would encourage you to avoid this place. The course is in the worst shape and any course I have played in the area this year. Weeds all over the fairway and greens. A mowed pasture is better than here. They obviously don’t water enough either because the cracks in the ground in the fairways will kick your ball left or right as if you hit a root.

Then there is the lack of customer service. We played a 4 hour round. There was nobody in front of us and the group behind us was on the tee when we were on the green. The group behind them jumped them then asked if they can play through. We were on the tee box. We said yes and they jumped on the box and played that hole rather than skip it like the last hole they skipped to jump people. This delay allowed the group behind us to catch up. After teeing off and taking 1-2 min to look for a ball, we were asked by the marshal at this point to pick up our pace. I didn’t respond well to that, considering the situation. While I did not cuss at or anger the marshal I did make it clear that he was wrong and we were on pace. He continued to explain how the course was busy and we needed to play faster so everyone could have fun. I informed him his attitude ensured we wouldn’t return.

I felt like I was more aggressive than required so I walked over to apologize to him. His response was to defend his action and he actually said if I was a real golfer I would understand pace of play. I told him if he was any good at his job as marshal he would understand that we let a group play through which slowed us, we are under 15 min a hole. His response I am not a marshal I am the owner. Well his bad attitude and complete lack of customer service ability explains why his staff is less than courteous, why the course is in such horrible shape and why we will not return. With the amount of great courses that you can play for less money than Beacon I STRONGLY encourage you to play elsewhere.

Best to avoid until it’s in better shape

I’ve golfed here and used the range a handful of times and have never had a good experience. This one was just the last straw. Firstly, when you walk into the clubhouse you feel unwelcome- like you are bothering them with your money. Secondly, the course is in horrendous shape. I know there was a bit of rain lately but doesn’t explain the dried out greens and unkempt fairways. The bunkers are unplayable. I watched the owner harass an elderly man on the range for hitting his balls in the shade- even though there were only 2 other people on the range. Ive previously seen him yell at customer who was asking about the shape of the course and whether or not the lights would be on. The bathroom area is also not very clean. My friend was kicked off the range an hour before they were suppose to close. Overall, just not worth it and should be avoided. Plenty of better courses in the area.

Disrespectful

If I could give negative stars I would... I have never been so disrespected in all my life. In less than 15 min I had the employee Mark say expletive you fatboy chest bump me and threaten to kick my butt. While the "owner" threatened me with the cops. All because I told the desk clerk Mark that if I was too slow I'd let people "play through". Mark said I better keep up and it went down hill from there. Customer service is dead at this place and I have no idea how they are able to keep customers with this kind of service. The "owner" had told me that he never had Mark cuss in 2.5 years and would surely never do that to a customer.( so I am a liar) NO alcohol involved and I'm actually passive to a fault. Buyer beware DO NOT SPEND MONEY HERE...

Staff was rude

The gentleman that checked us in was definitely NOT a gentleman. He was rude, He did not ask us if we wanted to pair up with others, which he did anyway. He did not give us a receipt. He was just overall extremely unpleasant. If we didn't enjoy the course so much we would consider going elsewhere..

Great Course

Nice practice green, chipping green, driving range and of course golfing under the lights. Had good sand in chipping green bunkers. The ultimate public course!

Trim the trees

This course could be great. Tree trimming needs to be done. A lot of the tee boxes are narrowed due to overgrown trees. #1,5, 6, 8, 13, 14, & 16 all need to have limbs cut back around the tee boxs to allow for unobstructed tee shots. The tee boxes need to be leveled. And quite a few of the greens are plagued with blue green alge. Due to bad drainage. The bunkers are sad sad sad. Wish they would put some money back into the course. Especially for the prices they charge.

This course need a lot of help!!!!

I have played here many years and it gets no better. They send emails saying "course and greens awesome". They must never go to or play other courses! The greens are extremely slow, muddy, and hairy. There are ant piles, and weeds all over. Most fairways are severely rutted and you bounce all over in a cart. The tee boxes are absolutely awful. The carts are poorly maintained. The one I had, had half of a windshield wire-tied to keep it on. I only saw a couple of carts with the whole windshield. It's really a shame as they need a groundskeeper who knows how to manage this place.

Has seen better days

I used to play out at Beacon all the time in its heyday, but the course has since fallen into disrepair. It pains me to see the track this way as it is such a fun play. It has so much potential and is still a test if you're not on your game. However, the $20 green fee for walkers just isn't a good value.
