Great layout, but poorly maintained

Really nice piece of property with 8 of the holes having elevation changes unusual for Dallas

Course is built on soil with high clay content, so avoid it when wet

There was virtually no sand in the bunkers. They were horrible. We basically just pulled the ball out for free relief

The greens rolled pretty slow

I know it’s a “muni” but the playing public still deserves better course conditions

It’s a shame because it really could be a very good course if it was better maintained

Not worth $62 at this time

Good Muni

This course is better than most munis. First, it is professionally designed. The tee boxes, bunkering and green complexes are built to a high standard. There is a lot of contour to the fairways and significant elevation change. It certainly feels like a more expensive course. The greens rolled very true for November and I never had a bad fairway lie. Conditioning was good for a public course. The bunkers need some work. There are a number of well placed water hazards. The closing stretch 13 -18 could compete with many private courses and the closing hole is particularly strong. Overall, a good and enjoyable challenge. It's a four star property on a muni maintenance budget. I wish I could give it 3.75 stars. I'll be back.

Tension Highlands

Due to recent rains, the bunkers are in poor shape. Heavy rains have washed a bunch of the sand and left them muddy. The rest of the course is looking good for this time of year. The layout has some forced carries and blind tee shots which will make club selection paramount.

Great condition

Fairways in great shape and give you a good lie to make great contact on approach shots. The undulation was awesome and unexpected. Couple blind shots but they were manageable. Greens in great shape and rolled pretty true. Will definitely play again. Price would be better if it was $50 instead of $60. It was about a 5 minute minimum wait on every tee box though. Marshall was active but incapable of getting the speed up

Who Killed All The Birdies?

Only had one birdie. It was a windy day! Fairways and greens were in really good shape. Greens held a good approach and the fairways had some pretty good roll without being that every lie is a tight lie. The course is looking really good. I was lucky enough to avoid the bunkers even though they looked like they were well maintained. You'll like this course.

LOTS of rollout

Highlands is playing firm and fast right now! 346 yard drive from the tips on the 1st hole - oh yeah, and I hit a hybrid! Watch out for the groups behind you, everyones shots are rolling out on this hole.

Greens were pretty good. $42 was higher than I wanted to pay. Next time I'll carry my bag and walk instead of ride.

I really like this course. I'll play here a lot this summer.

Patience is a Virtue

It is so early in the season, you may want to wait to pay $37 bucks for this course. Tee boxes are almost nothing but dirt. Fairway grass is still dormant and very thin. Nothing but tight lies to be found. As Charlie Rymer calls 'em, nothing but unfortunate lies. The greens were to bright spot - very smooth and VERY grainy. They held a good approach shot and rewarded a well thought out and struck putt....for the most part. Never saw a "cart girl" the whole day. This always true on Tenison Glenn, but never has been on the Highlands.
The bunkers have really good sand at a good depth. One other observation: Most of the water hazards (penalty areas) have clear water so it is relatively easy to find a stray shot ( of course that wasn't true for me -- NOT!) I think the Highland will be back to it's glory in a month.

Great place!

I was finally able to play this course for the first time (Highlands), even though it was pouring all morning before our round and on and off during our round. Wet course and cart path only made it a beating, but this place is awesome!
The course layout is fantastic. The greens were so pure!

I agree with some of the other reviews, the staff isn't great, but I completely understand why. This place gets abused. The rules are simple, don't bring your own booze, play the 18 holes of golf that you payed for, don't play 5 somes, quit slicing 3 or 4 balls off of each teebox, and keep up with the group ahead of you.

If I lived closer, I would make this my home course. It's a must play for those visiting.

Tension Highlands

Even though Tenison Highlands and Tenison Glen are on the same property, they are worlds apart. The Highlands layout is not something you would expect when you pull into the parking lot. There are massive trees that line the fairways and guard portions of the greens. Greens have a lot of break, but roll true. This is by far my favorite D.A. Weibring designed course.

OK, course

i have played this course many time. it is not for the beginner, it does have challenging holes and does require some shot making on a few holes. It could use more TLC in the summer months, But what course can't in the Heat of Dallas. The play is slow even through the week, most people play this course over the older one. It is also a little pricey. there are a few bunkers and water. also a few tight fairways.

Greens in rough shape

No sand traps and greens are in rough shape. A good course to work on your swing.

Tennison Highlands - One of the Best Public Courses in DFW

I've played this course dozens of times and it is in great shape right now, fairways and greens are very good. Played very early in the morning from the tips and it was real fun. Highlands course has great terrain, with good hills. If the south wind is blowing more than +1, this is all the golf course most people can handle. Finishing holes are great.

Decent Course

Course is old and it shows. The greens are decent at best. Some have bald spots on them and have had them for quite a while but for half the price as the Highlands course, I guess I can't complain too much.
