Save Your Money & Time

This place could be good. Could even be great. However, the front 9 is riddled with gunshots going on the whole time you are playing due to a shooting range being located behind the course. Aside from that, there is trash all over the course. The ongoing construction on Luna road is unnerving. The course isn't properly maintained at all. This becomes even more apparent each times we get rain. Nice staff but not a nice course to play at. Second worse course in Dallas behind Riverchase.

Luna Vista

As far as the Dallas munis are concerned I think this one is in the best condition. The greens are in superior shape! The rest of the course is in good shape especially with the summer conditions we are getting. No issue with pace of play, got done in under four hours. Will play here again.

Good value on challenging course

For the money this is a good, challenging course. Lots of water and bunkers in key places make this difficult in spots but fair overall. Be forewarned - right next to city landfill with the associated noises and smells. If you’re looking for a fair and fairly cheap muni, this could be good to try.

Dallas Muni

This was my first trip to Luna Vista, but definitely won't be my last. Driving it in play is of supreme importance here. The fairways were really firm, but the grass was well maintained, and the greens rolled true and held shots well. Several wedge shots even spun back. Many of the greens were elevated with collection areas off the back or sides. I can't comment on the bunkers as I avoided them all.

The Good:
The practice facility is great, with an expansive putting green, short game area, and a range with several distance targets, and the pro-shop/grille staff were courteous. Every tee is adjacent to the previous green, which makes it very walk-able. Despite being in a low area that is prone to flooding, the elevated greens and the fairway drainage systems help keep the course in great shape.

The par 3's offered a great challenge and tested both short and long irons. The par 4's had great variety, with chance to drive aggressively to get wedges to greens, or lay back to mid-irons to avoid the many water hazards. Three of the Par 5's are get-able and offer great risk reward approach shots.

The Bad:
Though the fairways are generous, the rough and over-growth were way too thick and will cause delays from looking for balls if players go beyond the 3 minutes to look for it even in non-hazard areas. There were several downed trees from recent storms that need to be cleared out. Also, there is a gun range near the course and you can hear shots fired every few seconds (louder on front 9 than back 9).

Final Thoughts:
This is a fantastic muni. As with every Colligan Golf renovation I've played, strategy is as important as shot-making, and the routing is very walker friendly. There are a few pace of play reminder signs on the course, and despite playing with some slower players, we still finished in just under 4 hours. I look forward to playing here again and walking the course next time!

Centrally located and easy to get to

This is a Dallas staple among municipal courses. Conditions are fair for the price and staff is very friendly. Thanks for your reviews and great idea on the YouTube videos. I just watched them all including Colorado which I just returned from in July. Played west of Eagle Vail in Walcott course called Red Sky Ranch. Temps and conditions were excellent there as well.

Fun layout and walking friendly

I haven't walked a golf course in over 10 years, but my boss wanted to, and they rent push carts, so here we go. This was the first time I played since the course was renovated a few years ago. The clubhouse and surrounding area were especially upgraded. Greens were fast and mostly smooth. Fairways were a bit chewed up in places but what you might expect from a muni that is prone to flooding. Very easy to walk, and will definitely be back to do it again at least until the summer heat hits. Overall course conditions were OK, but not great. The layout, secluded feel, mature trees, and perfect weather helped make it a great day on the course.

Good Course

This course was re-done and has really improved since then. but let's be honest, no matter what course you play in Dallas, Texas from June to September, the ground is going to be hard even if it has green grass on the fairways. This is a pretty straight forward course and is great for people who don't like that much of a challenge. The course has plenty of shade trees to hide from the Texas sun in the hot time of the year. The play is pretty much at a steady pace the 5 or 6 times I have played there this year. Over all this is a pretty good golf course.

Great find

Hidden course close to dfw airport. I usually play bear creek but wanted something different and was way surprised. Awesome layout about 7000 yds from the tips. Tight lies everywhere fast fairway and greens, lots of fluffy white sand in bunkers. I like courses where you've gotta hit fades and draws all over and this course rewards you. If you've played in the metroplex I would put this course on par with grapevine. Way better than ditto or bear creek. Great hidden gem.

Course is Thirsty

Not a bad course for the price, but it was crying out for water everywhere. It was amazing to me that the tee boxes and greens were even green. Tee boxes were so hard, you needed a jack hammer to tee up your ball. Locals were impressed that I made a ball mark on the green with a lob wedge shot from 70 yards, which still didn't stop my ball that rolled out 15 feet. There is danger lurking everywhere on this course. Do not miss the fairway or you will pay dearly. I'll play the course again, but will know better to land the ball well short next time.
