ClubhouseReviews
This course has a nice layout and driving range area. The clubhouse is small and snacks are limited. Not sure if it's inside is even open since the pandemic. They may have gone to a walk up window check in permanently? Also, there is a putting green near the 1st tee to use while you wait for your tee time. Nice variety of holes but not many water hazards. Fairway bunkers were constructed in its original design but were never filled with sand. There is a small local cemetery just left of the 4th tee box. Overall I like playing here but it's often crowded and a bit pricey especially considering they are not on golf now and their senior rates are not much less than regular price. As is the case at many courses if you come as a single expect to either wait for an opening or be paired.
Hidden Gem
I've been playing in the Knoxville area for several years now, and have only recently heard of Ruggles Ferry. Played this weekend with a group of friends and absolutely loved it. I was not expecting such good conditions for the price. The tee boxes were actually flat and had great grass. The greens were also in remarkable shape. It's also pretty open, so even if you don't hit a perfect tee shot, you still have a decent shot at the green on most holes. This is my new favorite course in the area. Will absolutely be back.
Wet disappointing.
I have had the pleasure of playing this course over the years but was very disappointed in the lack of maintainence on the course. I can’t recall in the last 5 years the course having 2” tall weeds growing where the fringe used to be. The greens were grainy and incredibly slow. It looked overall like no one has mowed in weeks. This is a special course when maintained but right now it’s more goat ranch then golf course.
A gem
Had an awesome round - the weather couldn’t have been better, and the course was in fantastic shape! I played well, which added to the enjoyment but still this a great spot and I look forward to returning.
Plan part of your golf trip here
This is a fun layout. There are many challenging holes mixed in with some birdie opportunities. A number of holes have water and there are plenty of elevation changes. Hole 11 is particularly difficult. I would recommend this course for sure. We played first (3 golfers) on Sunday morning in 3 hrs 15 mins!
Ruggles Ferry Nice
I have played this course several times. It is always in good condition with some very nice views of surrounding landscapes. The layout is challenging for golfers of all skill levels but allows some recovery room so every errant shot doesn’t kill your score. The staff is friendly and helpful. It stays pretty busy but pace of play is usually ok. A pond comes into play on a par 3 that is all carry to the green. Several holes have a creek in play. Greens and fairways are well maintained. It’s a little pricey if you don’t get a hot deal on Your golf app.
Always an enjoyable round
Greens and fairways are always in good shape. Greens were pretty fast but not like a table top. It has a coupe of nice elevated tee par 3s and very few (if any) blind shots. As long as you hit the ball where it should be you can see the green. Nice quiet gas carts with GPS. #2 is probably the least imaginative hole but does offer challenges. Clubhouse is adequate and staff are always friendly. They do a nice job of bringing a creek running across the course into play on 8 holes. Ruggles Ferry is in a beautiful pastoral setting.
Great value
Course was in excellent condition from the tee boxes, fairways and greens. Everything was very green, the greens were very receptive running a little slow which is typical for bent greens this time of year. Randall Hodge and his family have done an excellent job with this course. The only noticeable negative was the lack of sand in most of the sand traps as we were in three of them. A good layout of holes, especially from the blue tee boxes with the inclusion of some tee boxes we have never played from.
Favorite Course
This is my favorite course to play. Always in great shape, fun to play and very open. Definitely recommend everyone playing this course.
Exceeded Expectations
A hidden gem! I certainly was not expecting this to be one of my favorite courses I’ve ever played. Everything about this place is good.
Beautiful course and fast greens
This course seemed to in the middle of nowhere but was worth the effort. The greens were in great shape as well as the rest of the course. This was a cart path only day due to heavy rain the previous day but was still very enjoyable. The pro shop was friendly and driving range and putting green was conveniently located to warm up prior to your round. They want you to be part of a 2 or 4 some to keep play moving smoothly. They seem to be very busy early in the day. I will be back.
Horrible Lady in the pro shop!
Me and a friend of mine(both of us are scratch golfers) like to play this course a few times a year, as it's always in great shape and we like the layout! But this last time was a disaster, SOLEY BECAUSE OF THE WOMAN THAT WORKED THERE! We showed up 30 min before our tee time and instantly, we were rushed to go early! When we clearly showed up early, so we can warm up. So we tee off exactly at our tee time was and 1:10 min later(we are on 8 tee), we are confronted by her. She is telling us we need to hurry, and that we are going to struggle to make it by the time they close. We were pacing for a 3 hour round! A 3 HOUR ROUND!!! And she is worried that we won't be in before dark. We would have been done by 7pm(it gets dark at 8:45-9). So, clearly she was just trying to leave and get out of there. THE WORST EXPERIENCE WE HAVE EVER HAD ON A GOLF COURSE!
Long story short, the golf course is good, the lady that I dealt with, ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!
A pleasure to play...
Always enjoy playing this course..challenging but fair...
Robert in the proshop is very professional and accomodating....a real asset...
Pleasant surprise
Haven’t played this course in over a decade and didn’t remember liking it, but we had a great round and I really enjoyed the course despite very wet conditions. Can’t wait to come back, I’m going to be a regular player around there!!
greens condition
considering that the greens had been "punched" recently, the course was in great shape for this time of year.
