Conditions can be spotty
I have played White Oaks several times. I like it because the price is low and it usually isn't too crowded. The course doesn't take tee times so it can be hit or miss on pace. Today was great.
The other thing that is hit or miss is the course conditions. Today it was bad. It looked like the fairways had not been cut for some time. It was a guess determining if you were on the fairway or the first cut. The lies weren't deep rough -- like a lot of Bermuda you see in the South -- but it certainly wasn't pristine. The greens were OK and recently cut but speeds had a lot of variance. But you can't expect much more at White Oaks. Conditions are spotty.
Until next time when I decide to roll the dice.....
Mow the fairways, please!!!
I played withe a fried who warned me the course can vary with its conditions. All true. Today, the fairways looked like a short cut of rough. Generally not bad but definitely not what you would expect from a normal fairway. I actually couldn't tell where the first cut of rough began. Other than that, $26 for 18-holes and a cart is fine by me.
Off the Beaten Path
Zoysia fairways and Zoysia Diamond greens for grasses. Greens are small, some have some tough undulations. Lots of small ponds and creeks, but hardly any bunkers (think I saw one fairway bunker). Does have some elevation changes too. Can lose some balls if not accurate with placement, between woods/water. Liked the back 9 better than the front 9. No scheduled tee time, just show up. Can make for crowding on weekend mornings. Nice to play something different, but won't put it on the regular schedule.
One to Remember
My name is Andrew and I'm from Jacksonville,FL .I played this course back in September with my good friend Johnny Ledwell . My experience was one to remember, the greens were lush the fairways were immaculate there were mountain streams running throughout the course .The nature that was around the golf course was unbelievable. If you like to play a course that's got great pace of play, simple layout and offers a great value you have to play this course absolutely can't say enough about it love it .
A great course off the beaten path
There have been times when I have driven down a long stretch of interstate and said to myself, "Wouldn't it be great to take a piece of land and build a golf course on these rolling hills." Well, White Oaks is such a place.
This course is well off the beaten path with farm land all around. But once you start to play the course, there are some beautiful holes and a good golf challenge. Most of the holes have wide fairways but a few are slotted between tress and hills. There are two streams and some ponds to capture wayward shots. There are quite a few blind tee shots and plenty of elevation changes. One hole, the par 3 8th, is 213 yards long with a 60-80 foot drop. The course is by in large a wonderful challenge with beautiful, natural scenery.
The greens are very gently sloping and very slow. It may take you a few holes to zero in on the speed. The fairways have a variety of grasses and the rough will definitely gobble up your ball.
For the price (I paid $20 with cart mid week) this is a course worth visiting.
A Gem Must Play!
If u are ever passing through between Knoxville TN and Chattanooga, u really need to stop in the small town of Athens, head west halfway to Decatur and follow the signs to White Oaks golf course.
This is a true hidden gem tucked away out in the middle of nowhere but is well worth the drive. The layout and raw country scenery are just awesome.
The staff is very friendly and the whole place has a genuine warm country feel to it. The course condition is very good, complete with sloping valleys and hillsides, with some very nice and fast greens.
It is very fun and very challenging as well. It is locally owned and operated. They treat u like family.
It's one of those courses that just make u sorry to leave.
U have to try it if u are passing through!

The girl behind the counter was drinking beer and very rude
The people working there were drinking beer I was trying to get help in the store but they didn't care. The course itself was unevenly mowed Tee boxes were so long you were uncomfortable hitting your drive. The greens were a mess and there were 9 people on one green. NEVER AGAIN
