Good value
Course was in great shape. Good golf for a reasonable price
Dollar for Dollar, one of the best
By far my favorite course around. Great condition. Fun to play.
The course was a lot of fun.
Well kempt. The greens held and the fairways were lush. There was a rain delay, but the course drained well and was playable right after it stopped. We had a good time.
some holes are very beatiful
we got a great deal on the greens fee and the course was very nice
The greens are in superb condition and the course is very playable.
Do yourself a favor and play this course. A gem in rural SC.
good bang for your buck
A nice course to play. The fairways were in good shape, and the greens were fast. The super deal on Golfnow.com made it a really great value.
Good layout
I grew up playing this course, and just as I remembered the greens were firm, fast, and in great shape. The rest of the course, however left a little to be desired. The cart paths were rough all the way around, the front 9 had several places where the ground was under repair, tee boxes throughout were fair at best, and once you got off the fairway 50% of the time you had a very rough patch to hit from (lots of bare spots). It's surely not my favorite place to play, but the layout was good, staff friendly, and I am sure to go back. Thank you golfnow.com for providing a great value!
Fun
Im by no means a great golfer, but from golfing other places and seeing what they have to offer it was a really good time. The course was not super long. I had a chance on most holes if I hit a drive 200+ to hit the green in two besides par 5s. The greens are fast but I think that just adds to the challenge.
Good value. Some challengig holes.
Nice course. Well pleased with our round. Would recommend this course.
Great deal for the price. Nicely conditioned. No negatives. Had a fun day.
After playing difficult mountain courses that test every element of your game on a routine basis, it is refreshing to play a course that is just fun. Wide fairways, fair risk/reward conditions. Super friendly staff that gave us a course book to help enjoy our experience. We will be back.
the fairways are starting to "green up"....and the greens rolled well...
I would recommend this course to my golf buddies any time...
This course is much improved since the last time I played it.
The last time played Pickens country club was late spring 2011 and I said then as walked to my truck "I will not ever play here again until they make some dramatic improvements to the condition of the course". So about a month ago I was in the area and pulled into the parking lot and walked to 2 of the closest greens and was pleased with what I saw. So I told my golf buddy we should go back and try it since its so close to home. In spring of 2011 the greens were in terrible condition and the tee boxes were lacking any good grass to hit from. The course still needs some repair in some areas such as cart path and a few of the tee boxes but the maintenance crew seem to care about what the place looks like now. For the $30 I payed to play a mid morning tee time was a decent value. The greens looked great but there is lots of room for improvement throughout the course. I will be back to play there unless they let it get run down again.
Can't sweat the small stuff
Okay the 1st tee box is next to the pro shop, if you hook one your going through a window. The tee box grass is tall, almost rough. The fairways are no different, cut a inch shorter then the rough. The greens are awful good luck dodging all the divots, just messy overall. The fairways people have driven all over, they look bad, no one fills their divots. If you hate being near the road, dont go here. The course however does have potential, but the way it is treated, by the staff and players, almost makes it unplayable. This is a great golf course for a person who just wants to play, someone that doesn't care about yardage markers/ball cleaners/hole identification. There are a few risk-reward holes that are possible for any skill level. But if you are going to spend 25 bucks to play here why not drop 30 and go to Boscebel?Heddles? Hejaz? Not worth the money here guys.
Friendly staff, a great place for the casual golfer. Elite players will not enjoy this experience but if you are north of 90 you will fit right in.
Fast greens; short course with no major hazards or difficult shots.
Player friendly.
Good, older golf course (built in 1958) normally kept in good condition. Greens are bent and typically fairly fast. This past summer keeping the greens in good shape was challenging due to high heat and opressive humidity, but they remained playable.
Older but good grounds maintenance
This is an older course with poor facilities and buildings but the course is usually maintained well. A few greens had issues when I was there, but it appeared to be being addressed.
