The West course is one of three 18-hole golf courses at Myrtle Beach National just off Highway 501. Like the next door King's North, the West Course features bentgrass greens and no real estate development on any fairways, which are lined with Carolina pines. Designed by Arnold Palmer and Francis Duane, the West culminates with a dramatic 230-yard par 3 over a water hazard.
Some golfers have complained the layout isn't particularly imaginative, though it can be fun from the back tees with its numerous doglegs, fairway traps and other hazards. Be advised none of the courses have a particularly isolated or rural feel, sitting as they do in one of the most congested traffic arteries in the southeastern United States.
