A terrfic and challenging oceanside course. Lots of blind hazards and some ball-carries over marsh areas.
Originally, Charleston National was designed to be a private course, but after sustaining serious damage from Hurricane Hugo, the course was made public, and the resulting changes make it a unique experience. Gone are many of the tall pines that protected the course, victim of the hurricane's fury.
"The owners and designers really stepped up after the whole landscape was rearranged by the hurricane," said a TravelGolf.com writer.
Fairways remain tight on the course, and Charleston National definitely presents a challenge for golfers, but the effects of Hugo can still be seen and the course's owners are still working to overcome it all.
