The Valley at Eastport Golf Club is laid out along the Intracoastal Waterway, and it's been known for years as one of the better courses for seniors and beginners to play. First of all, it is short at 6,202 yards. It is also mostly flat, though some hills do come into play on the layout on the mildly rolling terrain. There is also water in the form of ponds that come into play on seven or eight holes. The course is known for the conditions of its bentgrass greens, which are large, fast and well-protected.
Though short, the fairways are relatively narrow with a lot of out of bounds in the form of houses and roads adjacent to them. Architect Denis Griffiths, who won notices with his design at Chateau Elan in Braselton, Ga. designed the course with shot-making in mind. Most of the holes are short and relatively easy, until you come to the three closing holes, known for their abrupt difficulty. Still, with a slope of 116, Eastport is very playable and fun for those who can't or don't like to bomb it off the tee. Some have called this one of the underrated courses of the Grand Strand.
Originally opened in 1988, this 6200 yard Dennis Griffiths designed gem will challenge you with its personality. Not a typical beach layout -- but a finesse course. The lush tree-lined fairways and cleverly contoured mini-verde bermuda greens will test any level of golfer
