What a View!

This is a great course, but the members can be somewhat 'snobby'. I was an associate member there for a while and they were not too friendly.
However the course is great. The views are amazing and the holes are fair but challenging.
Greens are usually in great shape. Layout is fun. The first few holes are a tough start. 18th hole is a disappointment.

Another good value in Rhode Island

The locals sure know about this semi-private club located on the east side of Rhode Island between Providence and Rhode Island. Always in great shape, there's a real community atmosphere here, where golfers not only love to tackle this moderately difficult course, but hang out at the 19th hole as well. First opened as nine holes in the 1920s, the course is a mixture of solid and quirky golf holes, but very enjoyable. It's not especially difficult, but you do have to manage your game.

One of the top courses for your money around

This is in my opinion one of the better courses in this area to play. Now I want to put this out there before anything else, I was a junior member here back in my early teens, this was my home course for my high school golf team, and now I am an associate member. So some people might see my review as a little one sided, but I can assure you that I truly love looking an studying golf course design so I will give my honest opinion of this course.
This course gets a lot of play through out the year but the condition of the course is always excellent. Fairways and greens are pure and the rough is just enough to make your wayward shots tricky, but it will not kill your round.
Hole layout is good, not great, but good. The first 3 holes are some of the more challenging opening holes around. The first hole is tight OB left with water short of the green. Hole 2 is a longish par 4 with bunkers and tree left and right of the landing area. And hole 3 is a long par 3 with the green sloping from back to front and OB tight left. The reason why I said that course layout is good not great is because of the final 2 holes. 17 and 18 feel like they are squeezed in and don't make for an enjoyable 2 holes. This course deserves a great finishing hole, and it just doesn't have it.
The views on this course are some of the best around. You get great views of Mt. Hope Bay on 5 green, 6 tee, 11 tee and green, and on 16. The 16th hole is arguably probably one of the better views on a golf course in RI.
Overall the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The emendates are average here. They have a nice club house and a nice dining and bar area with good food to go with it. There is a small practice green and bunker for short game work, and a bullpen for hitting longer irons, but you have to shag your own balls.
Overall I truly believe that this is one of the better public courses in RI to play. If there was a driving range and a better finishing hole I would say it would be hands down the best course. If you are around the area I would strongly advise to stop by and play a round. Prices are reasonable and worth every penny. I will also attach a picture I took one day when playing the 16th hole.

Nine holes at Montaup CC

We only had time for 9 holes but will definitely return for a full round ASAP. Guys in pro shop were nice. Starter did a great job getting us started on time and helping us with a tip to stay right on # 1. Make sure you follow this tip. #1 plays 3 strokes with a pond in front of green. Course was in super shape for early season. Tee area and fairways both green and mowed perfectly. Rough is thick and penalizing. Stay on the fairway. #5 is a par 5 dogleg left with green overlooking the bay Beautiful background. Fantastic weather made it a great day. Had a cold beverage on patio after round. I'll be back to do all 18. I recommend anyone to do the same.
