Worth the Drive from NJ
Some very interesting holes, that really make you think. Starting with the first, blind tee shot uphill. No.9, stay right on this steeply sloping fairway. I hit it in the left rough and wound up in the right rough. 15th par 5 2nd shot is blind over a creek. 16th par 3, straight up hill.
Conditions were good throughout.
Great shape
Played Glenbrook on a sunny late November day. The course was immaculate. The fairways were void of fallen leaves and the greens were fast and true. There were few golfers that day so we played 18 in 3:15. One of the best days of the year.
long off whites
the course is fast and in very good shape. there is lots of walking with wet areas you cant take the cart.
course improvment
the course is in better shape then the summer . But its getting cold . soon snow will catch up with us. Next year !
No fairways
This course is not cared. green were slow and small
fairways were filled with weads and rock hard.
Some said unique layout but I see weird. I would not play here again.
Could be much better
The fairways are not clean cut and are not well defined. The tee boxes from the Blue tees were mediocre or worse. Number 9 is a very poorly designed short par 5. There is no landing area off the tee as the fairway is all right to left slope and a perfect tee shoot rolls down to the rough on the right. There are some very nice holes but ruined by greens that were soft and slow. The first tee is blind and all shots roll right to left. Odd way to begin a round. I would play again basically because it is a good walking course. But not a great value.
excellent layout
Course layout has many character holes, Greens excellent, Fairways rough not much water and plenty of weeds and clover. This course at one time was probably one of the best but has been let go for a while. The club house experience was good. friendly staff and good food and drink. Enjoy the views and the woldlife and have a good time
Stay out of the rough
Fairways and greens were in excellent shape. The rough, however, was worthy of a US Open. Unless you happened to walk directly over your ball, it was lost. And if you could find it, you still had a one-stroke penalty since you could only hit it about 40 yards. You might fare better with steel-shafted clubs, but that's not my game.
As for the layout, three negatives I recall off-hand. You have to play across the road on one of the holes. The fairway is a blind shot from the first tee box. And the 14th fairway is split by a creek with the second half being elevated -- another blind shot.
Nice shape for a muni, but unless you're (i) always in the fairway or (ii) a strapping young lad or (iii) they've cut the rough to under 4" or (iiii) you get a great rate on golfnow and don't care about the rough, I'd recommend you skip this one.
The restaurant serves excellent lunches.
Nice course
The course had a few blind shots which was not helpful as this was my first time here. I played as a single so the round went fairly quick. I came up to a foursome on the third hole and they let me play through. This allowed me to finish the round in less than 3 hours. The greens were well maintained. The holes along the road (2) and were more of a concern for the oncoming traffic (not many cars passing by) than the two holes that played across the road. There was one hole that played over a stream which was one of the blind shots. If I didn't take a ride up to see what was up there, I would not have been hitting to the correct place.
Rough was deep and you need to have a pretty good feel for approximately where your ball went in or it may be difficult to locate. The deeper rough adds to the challenge of hitting your approach shot.
I did have to prove I pre-paid on golfnow as the person at the desk (just started) was misreading the entry and asked me for the greens fee. The mix up was a no never mind and did not affect my impression of the course. I did get out about an hour early which was very good as I had read in other reviews that they were held until their assigned start time.
Signage could be enhanced.
Nice course overall and will play it again.
Great greens and fairway conditions
Well maintained course, somewhat forgiving, some difficult holes. Leaves were largely cleared, fairways were hard with good rolls. Friendly staff. Great day of golf.
Enjoyable round
Excellent greens and tee boxes. Friendly staff, played with my wife in 3.5 hours. Mostly twosomes so the round went fast. I recently turned 65 so I decided to play the white tees instead of the blues and really enjoyed the course. I would come back.
You guys
The course was wet with many standing waters. Fairways are short grass made up of mostly bluegrass and crabgrass. Greens were in good shap . The greeting at the checkin point was rude . The comment " he's a golf now guy " didn't set wright with me . I use golf now a lot and am very pleased with it . If the course doesn't like the program then get out . I'll just spend my money at other courses in the same area.
Glen Brook Country Club
This is a nice course to play on. It was well maintained, and plenty fun to spend an afternoon. The only downside I could think of is that there are a few holes where you have to hit over the road to get to the fairway, which I don't really like because there are cars that pass by and the last thing I want is to accidentally break someone's windshield. However, if you're careful and you wait for the cars to pass, you shouldn't have any problems. I definitely enjoying my time there, it's a fun course.
Played here for a long time
I have been playing here for about 40 years. There are some really nice holes and then there are some really stupid holes (like a hole where it is almost impossible to keep your ball from going onto the road.....yes, thats right, the road and another hole where you have to hit over that same road).
It seems as though in the 40 years i have played there that they have not figured out the drainage on a number of the holes as they are always wet. I do recommend playing here at least once though, i will give them that and it will always hold a special place in my heart as it is the course i played my last round with my grandfather at.
Fun course with a few interesting holes!
This was our first time playing Glen Brook of all the the times we've played Poconos courses throughout the years. Despite a bad start due to being treated as 2nd class citizens for booking through Golf Now, we had an enjoyable round. I had booked the round through Golf Now as a "hot deal" for a 12:48 tee time. We arrived early, around 11:40 as we always do, and went to the Pro Shop to check in. Since there was no one in the shop waiting to start their round and no one in the parking lot or on the 1st tee, I asked if we could tee off early. The guy behind the counter stated "no, you booked a 12:48 tee time through Golf Now so that is your tee time. Come back at 12:40 and we will set you up with carts." Disappointing to say the least, since we wouldn't be pushing ahead of anyone, so we went to the clubhouse and had some lunch. Good lunch and great service by the friendly waitress. After lunch we putted on the practice greens for a good 25 minutes, still without seeing anyone tee off on the 1st hole. About 12:35 we went to get our clubs and another employee came and told us our carts were all set up and we could tee off. We teed off and played 18 holes with no one pushing us from behind or holding us up ahead of us. The course was beautiful and had 2 interesting holes, where you hit into the green over a main road and tee off on the next hole over the same road. I wonder how many cars get hit by wayward golf shots? The locals all slowed down so they knew what they were in for.
All in all, despite the inconvenience at the start, we enjoyed the course and will go back again when we are up that way! Won't let one employee ruin a nice course for us!
Very Interesting
Pick the right tees as this course plays a lot longer than indicated by yardage. Course is wet and not much roll. There are 6 holes that are "cartpath only". Some very interesting greens, but great condition overall. The food in the Clubhouse was very good too.
Nice course especially for beginners
Overall nice course The greens were in very good shape , however they were slow and overall flat. The fairways grass was cut a tad high so your ball didn't roll when it landed Very little water, the sand in the bunkers was more like tiny pebbles , but it worked . The course was open and wide fairways
Course has an interesting track.
Definite need to pay strict attention to just about every shot. there are some road and stream crossings. Take extra balls. Fun round, helps to win all the skins
worth the price
greens good - course better than most in the area - disappointed restaurant and bar closed before most rounds completed - no food or beverage available
Great Value Course
I'm a former member with 50 rounds under my belt here. Great value course with a nice balance between being playable while remaining challenging. Won't punish you but makes you earn your score. Playing it for under $50 is a no-brainer. Tee boxes, fairways are good or better, rough and traps are ok to good, greens are good to very good. Course does have some lower areas which historically are wet, but management has made considerable improvements over the years which have address many of these.
