The Water Gap Country Club and Hotel is situated in the heart of the Pocono Mountains, just an hour from Philadelphia. The club was known as Wolf Hollow in the 1920s before going bankrupt during World War II. A local golfer bought and restored the course in 1957, and today, it is one of the area's most popular golf destinations. At 6,237 yards from the back tees, the classic links golf course may not be long by modern standards, but it will challenge you in numerous other ways. This shot maker's course requires some creative thinking to avoid the severe penalties that come with a mishit shot. The fourth hole is Water Gap's signature, nicknamed "Hagen's Folly" in reference to Walter Hagen's ill-fated performance in the Eastern Standard in the 1920s. This par-3 plays from an elevated tee to an elevated green. Overshoot the green and you'll face the same recovery shot that was Hagen's demise.
