Awesome views
Love this course!!! Great views & good condition, & great price
Great day of golf
My wife and I played 18 and took our little dog with us. Did not have to leave her in the car. A real nice mountain setting. Take extra golf balls, this can be a tight course. Worth the drive.
Great time with visiting family- bring balls
Having spent my youth playing Elk as a wonderful 9 hole course it has always been special to me. Now an 18 hole track the original front nine is still the best. With cousins from out of state visiting my wife and I took them up there on a gorgeous August afternoon. We had a leisurely round, they loved the beauty of the course. I played the best I have up there for some time with one lost ball ( how many courses do you know of have a box on the scorecard for lost balls on each hole?). The late afternoons and evenings are special up there in the mountains. The greens on the Par threes are HUGE. just don;t let the forest and ravines , and water bother you. The white tees on the 3 Par 11th are 187 all carry over water, the blues are a mere 215ish all carry. Good luck.
The greens are first rate and generally over large. Some are quite quirky with many slopes.
The signature #6 green requires an intimidating tee shot over the ravine but the green is actually about 70 yds in diameter, so grip it and rip it !
Anyway, bring lots of balls and have fun. The course is almost never crowded , worth the drive. In fact the drive IS part of the experience.
Walkable yes but a cart is worth it. Bring a camera, enjoy the wildlife.
The clubhouse does not have much food, and has some drinks and snacks, bring a lunch if you need it.
If you come to the Willamette Valley part of Oregon, you will probably want to play your Pumpkins, Reserves and other PDX area courses, but you MUST make the drive to Elkhorn, you will not be disappointed, weather a duffer or player.
The tee's range from 3500 total yards to 6500, take your pick, they have a tee area for you.
Elkhorn is about 1.5 hours from Portland , up a scenic Mountain road in a river valley in the Cascade Mountains.
Dress code is no cutoffs, everything else goes.

unique gem in the northwest
one of the most challenging courses i know of.
very remote and picturesque, well worth the trip from portland, salem, or eugene, oregon.
should you play it be shure to look at the back of # 4 green fore the founder's tombstone. don carpenter.
9 holes
We had a great time. Course was in good condition...we had been cautioned about the lost balls so we brought extras which we needed. The scenery was beautiful and it was so very quiet. Loved it!
Extreme
If you love playing a challenging course then Elkhorn is the course for you. They say that when you come to play bring several extra balls, I say that when you come to play bring some extra skills in course management. If you can leave your driver in the bag on par4 tee shots and use your long irons, you can be rewarded with alot of GIR if not break out the extra balls the forest and/or the water can eat them up in a hurry. Very challenging and very fun course.
Must Play
This course is a classic and a great excuse to be outside in a fantastic setting. I remember first playing it 25+ years ago as a 9 hold track w/ multiple tees. The (newer) back side is as fun to play as the front. The course is tight but not long so consider keeping you driver in the bag more than usual, especially on the first few holes where your score can explode from a few misplaced tee balls. The greens were especially soft, presumably from our rain last week. The fairways were not perfect but playable. This is just such a nice walk w/ multiple great views. We walked and enjoyed even some longer than expected green-tee distance as those are almost always through a nice grove of trees or pleasant meadow. Note that there isn't always a snack bar w/ sandwiches, but there appears a picnic area for public use with your own food and charcoal. Go play this course and you'll be glad you did.
One of the best in the Area
Great course, was challenging , with excellent scenery.
A must play course if you are visiting the area.
Very tough course
The greens were the best I had played all year. There are no visible yardage markers in the fairways so playing without this was tough. The is still some weather damage in the fairways and the course seemed to be over watered. The greens are very soft leaving 1/2 in divots from landing balls. Over all we had a good round.
Course Awesome
Course was in very good condition. The bunkers are not maintain and most of them unplayable.
This course is well maintained
This course is beautiful I enjoyed playing there. It's a very demanding off the tee very nice fair way n tough green to putt. The scenery is great.
Elkhorn Valley in the Raid
Elkhorn is a good course in a very picturesque settings. There are many extremely memorable holes but bring lots of extra balls because errant shots are almost always not recoverable. We played in late June during and after a modest rain storm. The greens do not drain well at all and there we a lot of standing water on the putting surface. That is the only negative factor noted.
awsome!!!!!!
Very nice course.Alot of challages around every corner!!Well worth the drive to play!!!!
Hidden Gem
Elkhorn is not necessarily for people expecting a country club type experience, but it is my favorite course to play in Oregon under $100.00. It's a shorter course, but has many challenging shots and beautiful scenery. If it wasn't almost two hours from my home, I would play it as often as I could. It's definitely worth the drive, though.
Our favorite course in Oregon
The location of the 4 tee boxes make this a great course for a mixed group. There's a tee for every level of player. Water and extreme roughs on nearly every hole make in necessary to bring some extra golf balls for each round. Shots over water and canyons make for a challenge and interesting scenery plus the drive out to the course is through a beautiful area. All in all, this is
one of our favorite courses in Oregon.
technically challenging
picturesque!, but target golf with trouble everywhere, except in the middle! Always enjoyable to play, but bring lots of golf balls, they seem to disappear when shots not straight.
stunning course......facilities not so much.....
I've heard for years about Elkhorn but never played it until yesterday......The course is challenging with narrow tee shots and hard firm greens but the scenery is terrific! Well worth the trip of 84 miles.....
I would say that the facilities are subpar but the staff was super friendly......
Great time
Had a great day and the course was in great shape. got a little clogged up around the 6th hole but worked through it.Great place to play!!
One of my favorites
I try and play Elkhorn Valley GC whenever I can drive down from Portland. A great course that, sad to say, has not yet overcome financial instability. The weather was great for this time of year and the course conditions, given all the recent rain, were very good. The greens were soft but rolled true, just hard
to get the speed. You have no excuse not to drive up to one of the most scenic courses in the mid valley at golf now prices. The value and golf experience are/were outstanding.
update on this --- we played again this year a few weeks ago, DO NOT GO, is my best advice. The course is in poor condition. The ants have the run of the tee boxes which are falling apart, on # 8 tee box I braved the ants, stuck a tee in and looked down there were already 50 ants on my lower legs !. the greens are dying too. About all they do is mow the fairways now and then and the greens. I do not think they are doing any fertilizing or applying an insecticides .
