Nice Local Eugene Option
Was tight on time wanting to get in a quick 9 holes the morning of U.S. Track and Field Olympic Time Trials in Eugene so this course was a nice local option. Even though the local men's club had teed off just about a half hour earlier we did not catch up to the last group until hole 6 so played fairly quickly in just 2 hours. We walked and thought it was a good hike, although not for everyone as it's got some steep slopes. They had rental pull carts and pro shop nice and friendly, pretty kick back. Layout not the easiest to negotiate but not that complicated either, some better signage would help. Maintenance guys were working on a Sat AM but stayed out of the way. Fairways and greens pretty good shape considering drought season. I will play here again when visiting family in Eugene.
Awesome day!
We had a great time .. beautiful day to walk on the golf course and play!
Laurelwood is quintessential Eugene
Laurelwood is a perfect course for a scratch golfer who wants a chill day on a scenic course. You won't see any uppity marshals or starters here, but you'll see a lot of very obedient dogs following their owners, who play every day. The course is very well maintained, much improved from yesteryears. What has never changed is the topography- rolling hills and gullies, excellent views.
It has about three par three's, and two par 5's. Depending on your game, and control of a fade, you might be better off using a 3 wood off the tee box except for #1 and #4. Laurelwood also has a fantastic pub/restaurant with lots of Covid-friendly outdoor seating.
Nice course
My first time playing this course. Went well, fairways were good, greens were challenging.
Great upkeep on the grounds
Outside of following people with dogs, when did this start happening?, the course was in great shape. Moved steadily with only small wait times on the par 3s.
Staff is friendly.
Great value.
Quintessential Eugene
If you don't like Eugene in genera for political reasons, this is not the course for you. It's a bit rustic, but always beautiful. The flip side is also true. It's an amazingly fun, very hilly course, with great dogs (the very good boys and girls) in tow at times. It is exceptionally well maintained for a city course with a lot of green staff- this was not always the case. I like to golf a lot, and Laurelwood makes it a hard case to make a 25 minute drive out of town to play at top-level courses that host US Amateurs, because it's so cool. Hilly, long, a few freebies, and super chill. Also has an amazing pub restaurant that rivals Bandon Dunes.
Great experience
This is a lovely course. Beautiful setting. Fun to play.
Quick, clean, convenient, and most importantly cheap
Anyone from Eugene knows laurel wood isn’t the fanciest corse around but the price point and recently improved corse conditions led to a great morning of golf. In town convenience is also a plus!
Not bad for a local course
Laurelwood is a decent little local course for the money.
Good:
The greens are small, sloped, and tricky, and make you work.
Fairways are surprisingly open (I hit driver on most holes here, except for #5 and #9).
Three par 3s are fun holes.
Relatively cheap.
Bad:
A couple years ago, they rerouted the finishing holes and the new #9 is an unfair par 5 with a forced short drive and blind uphill second shot.
The course doesn't drain very well.
Lots of new golfers playing here means slow, slow, slow rounds (especially this spring with COVID).
For whatever reason, they limit late tee times. It gets dark at 9:00 in the summer; I can play 9 holes in an hour when walking...but they often won't let anyone on the course after 6:00 or 6:30, and that seems to be by the whim of the person manning the pro shop on any given day.
Fun 9 hole course
Some broken branches and debris on the greens, but there had been days of fires locally. Super fun course and the staff(Alex) was really friendly.Ended up having the whole course to share with one other golfer. I will Definitely be back.
Dope little course
Surprisingly tricky greens, and very swampy (wet/muddy) at the moment. With more sun the course will be in great condition. Overall a great experience!
(Just started playing here... not sure if its a regular thing or not, but lots of walkers and groundskeepers that can get in the way at times.)
