Willl apparently temporary close in December
Wonderful setting, but fairways are lumpy making good contact on the ball problematic. Greens were rehabilitated from being catastrophically dried out last year.
Good rustic course.
Great setting. The greens are in much better shape than ever. The fairways got a lot of clumps that need smoothing.
Getting better
The City of Ashland cut off their water supply, political BS. Now they are back on the mend! It’s great to see the progress.
Drought stricken
Course is still recovering from no water from last year. Six greens were open three were still closed till the end of the month.
This course has upped its game!
They started to water the course again and it’s showing promise. A couple of Fairways still need some attention. Greens pretty good roll. Staff very accommodating. Can’t beat the price for range balls with a decent chipping/pitching practice area only yards away.
Good value for the price.
Quite bad shape
I’ve played Oak Knoll for nearly 10 years. It is my local course. However, it has become a victim of administrative vandalism from last Spring when the water district cut its supply off completely this ruining the greens that are even now under repair creating a ridiculous course in which temporary greens have been created out of completely ungroomed ground making the course a kind of carnival game where ball tracking on putts is random. Until the Parks Department comes up with an alternative contingency plan to irrigate the course. It is not worth playing.
Unplayable
In all fairness this course should be removed from your recommendations list. This course has been left in unplayable condition. Due to extreme water shortages the fairways and greens are unwatered, dry, dead grass. Do not attempt to play here. You will be very disappointed. Sorry it’s unfortunate.
Out of town on business, looking for a deal on golf during some free time. Reviews were misleading, so need to warn others. Course was in terrible shape. I live in AZ and I know a dry course when I see one, but this was ridiculous. It was like golfing on dirt infested with large packs of rodents that looked like huge squirrels, with pot holes for nesting all throughout the course. If you think you lost your ball, it may be in one of their nests. Range was way out dated and practice balls look like they went through a grinder. Played nine holes twice and it’s extremely difficult to follow the score card for yardage. Saw same lazy staff looking out over hole 9 in a golf cart with a hose trickling down on the brown “green”. Neighbors just walking their dogs through the fairway mid-play while kids were playing kickball on the course. Not even worth the $20 spent.
Had some extra time in between business appointments during out of state travel. Reviews and pictures seemed reasonable online and price seemed fair, so we booked sight unseen. Staff was cool at check-in, but that’s about it. Practice range was out dated. The entire course was infested with rodents (I’ve never seen so many squirrels) and large holes throughout the fairways. The greens were cracked and dried up and played as hard as a rock. Tee boxes were extremely confusing when compared to the score card, not to mention also hard and dried out and not level. It was like playing on dirt most of the course. Meanwhile, there were kids groups and adults walking the course mid-play. It seemed more like a dog park and playground rather than a could course.
Course needs more watering. tee boxes are in bad shape. Most greens and fairways are good.
Paid for nothing was told I couldn’t play
I paid via the tee off app. when I arrived was told they had a tournament going on and I wasn’t going to be able to play that day at all.
I drove 30 miles to play and was told they made a mistake forgot to let the app people know that they had scheduled a tournament last minute for that day.
So the guy gave me a voucher to play 18 holes another day.
He also tried not to add the cart to my voucher saying the app doesn’t include the cart but I showed him that the app said cart included in the price. All I wanted was my money back but Instead I got a voucher to play another day. I understand people make mistakes however I will no longer be playing at this course.
It was very cold, but the course played very well. Greens could be a little faster, but over all course condition was every good.
Oak Knoll
Played in just over 3 hrs. Course in good condition. Greens could be a little faster, but overall great round.
TLC
The grounds needs a LOT of TLC. Can't complain about pricing for this course but would love to see this course gets some love for the greens. Placed beautifully in Ashland and the scenery is amazing just hope it gets the attention.
Slow
Slow play.. Marshall not doing their job.
Probably not
Interesting layout, friendly staff, beautiful area, but the chorus needs lots and lots of work
Rustic mountain course. Everything is on a slope.
Oak Knoll is 96-years old. One of the oldest courses in Southern Oregon. Fairways are bumpy On some holes one can get a long roll on the grassless “roughs”. If you can play here you can play anywhere. Setting is great. Expect a NW headwind on most afternoons.
