Good day
They are still working on greens...Cart path needs work..
Changes for the better.
Fairways growing in nicely and greens nice as always. Couple of greens redone and some new tee boxes make the course much better. Great course for the money. Would recommend for any golfer to play here.
Fun Layout
The greens are very good...tho smallish.
Two par 3 greens have been recontoured and are now very playable. Fairways are still dormant but not too thin. Fun place to play every once in awhile. The staff is very friendly.
Great value for the money.
Considering it was winter conditions the course played well. The greens ran true while I was pleasantly surprised at the overall play of the course. For the money it was well worth it.
Nice value
Great layout for walking 18. Bermuda greens rolling really well right now. Friendly staff
Could be really nice.
Biggest thing I noticed is that the whole course seemed very dry. Fairways were dry and thin. Greens were hard as a rock and grain was always going downhill, so good luck trying to get the ball to settle on any downhill chips. More water time for the course would solve most this issue, imo. Other than that everything else was pretty decent, other than maybe a tee box here and there.
Enjoyable Course
Course is still wait for the fairways to come in but greens rolled true. I will be come back in peak season!!!
Great work on your game course.
Plays like a good up and down municipal with fast greens. Great value and work on your game. My friends and I keep it in our rotation of courses.
A pleasant afternoon in the sun
It was a lovely sunny day, and given back in the UK it's been truly winter weather it was nice to wear shirt and shorts in November to play a round of golf.
The course was dry, but too many leaves just left to the whim of the wind. Greens we firm if not hard, but they did ruin true. Lots of subtle borrows to allow for.
I hired a set of clubs for $25, not as expensive as other courses I've played, but an ancient driver, 2 hybrids 2 7 irons and nothing less than a 6 iron didn't make up for the price.
Whilst i wouldn't rush to play it a 2nd time it was on the whole enjoyable
get what u pay for
nothing special, old track, old carts, no range, slow play, not friendly when checking in
Old Short Course
Course is tucked away in Wendell, not bad but it's older and needs work. They are trying to update things and one guy mentioned they reworked some greens. Overall, not bad but not to my liking. Greens were inconsistent at best
Lots of excitement, but fair to the player
Re-graded greens have much improved course fairness on 2 par threes. Lots of water and some sand to make for exciting shots. Greens are fast, but run true.
Slow play, older course
This was my second time here and honestly, still not impressed and will not be back. Very, very slow play, starter pilled on folks to make foursomes regardless of tee times and this made thing even slower. Older gas carts with no GPS on carts, no driving range. They have a green to practice putting and chipping before #1 tee. It's a short course. They are trying to make the course a little longer by moving a few tee boxes but it makes for an awkward layout. This time of year courses should play the best in my opinion. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for on this course. Other local courses are far superior and much more enjoyable. If you're a high hdcp, worth the money but for a better hdcp player look elsewhere.
dengent1, I provided a recommended 4 star rating on the course, not sure why your so defensive. You didn't acknowledge anything substantive on my review, rather indicate how, in your opinion, snobby I am. Other local courses I was referring to are Pine Hollow, Neuse Country Club, River Ridge....not Pinehurst #2, etc... These courses are currently playing much better than Wendell. I also acknowledged that renovations are being made to lengthen the course, again nothing bad. I would hope that mgmt oversee's your comments as it looks poorly on WCC and your lack of professionalism.
I have played here off and on for about 10 years. The continuous improvements being made are very good. (except the stripes on number 3. There is room for more improvement, but I say Good Job So Far in the past 4 years. Perhaps this is a better course for locals. At least we appreciate the improvements, changes and fast greens. Thanks
dbirck72, you believe that it's alright for a bunch of singles and 2-somes to follow the 4-somes and keep running right up their backs? And if you are such a low handicap player, you should be playing Pinehurst #2, The Dunes, True Blue, Briar Creek, Carolina CC, Northridge CC, and the other high class, snobby courses. What are you doing playing a regular, working-man's course?
Thank you so much for the great review. We are glad you had an incredible time, and we hope to see you again soon! Thanks for choosing Wendell Country Club.
