Good, but could be so much better
Pros:
Staff, greens are receptive run true, 5800 yards from the whites, giddy up!, food and bev, coldest beer ever!
Cons: Greens are bit slow, fairways are patchy in spots, crab grass and clover, blind tee shots, no fairway bunkers, but the worst, greenside traps. Looks like no groundskeeper has touch them in years. Come on guys, they're small. Sad to say, we won't be back. Much better courses for the money out there and not an hour drive from Asheville.
Course conditions
Greens were VERY good. Tees and fairways were acceptable. Sand traps were the worst I've ever seen.
Quaint mountain course
I have never played this course before, so I was not sure what to expect but the price of $40 was right up my alley. The course is in very good condition. The greens are very smooth and the fairways are mostly in excellent shape. There are a few patches of brown grass And a few areas where everyone’s T-shot seems to land, and there are numerous divots. The clubhouse and the staff was extremely friendly. The restaurant had plenty of options along with free refills for the entire day on your soft drinks, and it was easy to navigate around the course with the exception of the 10th Tee. Directly next to the clubhouse when you start the back nine is the 16th Teebox, which is easily mistaken for the 10th. To actually get to the 10th. You have to cross the parking lot and go down a path. A lot of the tea boxes are very close to the previous green so be careful of incoming balls in the signage. I’m how to get to each hole could be an A lot of the tea boxes are very close to the previous green so be careful of incoming balls in the signage on how to get to each hole could be a little better, so if you’re not playing with somebody who knows the course, take advantage of the free yardage book that they offer you Overall the course is on the short side with several holes playing just over 300 yards. The par fives are lengthy, but pretty wide-open.. if there was a negative to the course, it would be the bunkers. They are not well-maintained. The edges are overgrown, and the sand was very hard packed. There was ample coolers throughout the course, so water was not an issue for drinking. The golf carts are several years old and a little on the rough side but being that they are a gas powered they work just fine.. there are several holes where the T-shot is blind so it is best just to hit the ball a shorter distance and take your chances with the second shot. The fourth hole is a par five downhill over a ridge. What I was not aware of was there is a river that runs through the fairway, which I found quite easily. If you’re in the Boone North Carolina area and you’re looking for a inexpensive but very nice round of golf, I would highly recommend visiting Grassy Creek golf club.
Interesting fairways
They just punched the greens and we already drove 30 min so we decided to play. Great staff, gave us a diiscount for the greens being punched. Fairways were nothing but clover, not your normal fairways anyway. Giving them the benefit of the doubt since it was early spring and they are bring the course back from the winter.
Great golf course in Spruce Pine
Awesome course in the mountains! And no second mortgage needed. Well done to Jim in the Proshop
Grassy Creek
Great course had a great round with my son. We were out early behind 2 other golfers and the pace was great on the front. The let a 4some go in front of us on the back so it slowed us down considerably. Overall course was in good condition. The greens were firm and rolled out very well. Would definitely recommend and I plan on playing again soon.
Greens are amazing. Fairways are good on some holes and bad on others but never terrible. Super friendly staff
Vacation Golf
On vacation and was looking for a course . This was ideal. Lots of mountain shots and great views. Narrow but not too difficult. Would definitely play again.
