One of the best courses I’ve played for the price... it’s like two different courses ,first nine is a mountain course second nine is flat land but both are fair but challenging at the same time .
Good layout, but wet
Good layout, but it's a mountain course so you have to expect low laying areas to be a little muddy. Went off front because no one told us to start off of 10. When we made the turn everyone was stacked up, one person starting their round said they always start on the back when there is frost. said we must have been confused. Not confused no one told us, that had a sign for cart path only should have had one to tee off on 10. Other than the smart alecs had a nice round.
Terrible
The entire course is brown, the fairways are covered in mud. You get punished for a perfect tee shot every other hole. Avoid this place.
A True Goat Track
Not sure what course the other reviewers played but this place is a disaster. The course and clubhouse opened in 1965 and absolutely nothing has been done to improve either since. The clubhouse is old, in disrepair and reeks of must and mildew. Range balls are nasty optic yellow and must be 10 years at least. The course is a true goat track and no better than a typical muni. They have bent greens which are a total mess. They had verticut and sanded the greens 7 days prior. More sand on the greens than in the sand traps. Large clumps of sand all over each green. The front nine has 3 - 4 decent holes while the back nine is nothing more than a quagmire. The back nine was soaking wet with 90% of the rough being a mud pit. We lost 3 balls on the back 9 in the rough (it had been 4 days since their last rain). Cart path only for the the final 7 holes. Gas carts with very old and narrow cart paths. You'll need a Chiropracter after your round after being beat up by these nasty cart paths. It's obvious this place has been suffering from very poor management/leadership with no improvement in sight. Do yourself a favor and drive another 30 minutes to Rock Barn and play there. This course was a huge disappointment!!
As the Head Golf Professional, I am very sorry to hear about your experience. I appreciate all feedback as it helps us improve your experience, I agree that there are areas of our course and facility that need updating, and there is a plan in place to address these areas. Unfortunately, some of these current issues affect our irrigation and drainage. Our aerification process was also hindered by the recent rains, and we were not able to clean up the sand as effectively as we normally do. Once the greens heal and the course dries out a bit, I believe you will have a very different experience. Feel free to contact me to discuss in more detail.
Course was great. Interesting layout and friendly Stafg
I am glad you had a great experience. Come back and see us soon, the fall foliage makes it a true pleasure.
Cedar creek
Very good shape nice greens great value. We have played here many times love it.
Shaggy fairways, not kept
It hadn’t rained in 2 days and the course was bone dry but they made it cart path only. They never checked on the conditions.
The rough was 5-6” inches in places. Twice the balls rolled off the fairway and couldn’t be found. Twiice a chip that went over the green took five minutes to find. Some bunkers had no sand.
No one was wearing masks in the pro shop.
PGA should be ashamed of this staff.
I am sorry that your experience wasn't what you expected. September was an unusually wet month, and some of our low areas take awhile to drain making many areas too soft for carts and also difficult to get in there with a mower. Sometimes we error on the side of caution to preserve our fairways.Thank you for bringing the lack of wearing masks to my attention, We will increase this protocol, to already go with safety divider we have at check to keep socially distant,
Horrible Pro Shop Staff
My golf foursome, along with probably 6 other groups, all arrived at this golf course on a beautiful 80 degree Saturday morning only to find out that the course was closed after driving over an hour to play this course. Pro Shop staff were completely rude and disrespectful in their response on how all of these groups “should have called.”
I have played golf for over 25 years and have never seen this... ever. I will never come back to this course and will NOT recommend it to any person that wants to play golf in the Lenoir, NC area to get a little mountain golf in.
As Head Golf Professional, I apologize for your experience. Unfortunately, we didn't receive notification of the course being closed due to heavy rain the previous day and night, until that morning. I agree that we should have reached out to contact those that were scheduled, and because of your feedback this policy is now in place.
Excellent Shape
Course was in great shape, fantastic fast greens. Highly recommend!
Course in great condition
Great day golflng with my Son who is visiting from Washington state. Really enjoyed the course.
Fun Course
I have been wanting to play here for a while and after seeing they had hosted a CGA championship recently I decided to book a time. The front nine was an interesting layout with many elevation changes and some narrow landing areas. The back nine was fairly flat and wide open but still had quality golf holes. The fairways and tee boxes were in good shape and the rough was light and not very penalizing. The greens were in great shape but a little on the slow side. They could have been left that way because of the hot weather. Be sure to say "Hi" to the gentleman who lives on the left of the 10th fairway! If you hit in a ball in his yard he is standing guard so you can't enter and retrieve it!
I am glad you enjoyed your time. Ellis Maples did a great job with the layout! Please come back and see us soon. When the leaves change, its a beautiful venue.
Cedar Rock
Overall course was in great shape. Played blue tees. Beautiful scenery and views. Course laid out to suit golfers of all abilities. Greens rolled faster than most i have played recently which was nice. A few bad spots here and there in fairways but did not take away from my experience there at all today. All staff probably one of nicest overall I have had the pleasure of meeting. Super friendly.
I am so glad you had a great experience. It is a great Ellis Maples design with beautiful views. It is even prettier in the fall! We look forward to seeing you again.
Cedar Rock
I was extremely pleased with my round at Cedar Rock. My son had checked the website before we played, and said that the course was rated #3 course in NC in 1970. I can see how that was true. The course is difficult, with all terrains imaginable throughout. The greens are huge, with perfect grass and quite fast. Water comes into play. Traps are well maintained. My son and I were a twosome, with him playing the blue tees (6600) yards, and me the green (5600). We were both challenged, shooting mid-80's. Not bad for 1st time around the tract.
I am glad you and your son had a great time! It is a challenging, but fair course that tests all your skills. Come back and see us soon!
Be on your toes
Cedar Rock is in excellent shape and not overpriced like many mountain courses in summer. What it does have in common with the others is tricky greens and fairways that require a fair bit of precision. No. 5 and 12 will get your attention. All in all, I wish it were closer to my summer home.
I am sorry you experienced the course after the recent rains which left the course very wet. When the bermuda goes dormant, not only does it lose its color, but the grass isn't growing to soak up the water. Please come out when the weather is hopefully drier and warmer, and I believe you will have a much better experience,
