What happened???
If not for Stephanie the expeience woudl have been a nightmare. Yes... I did only pay $10.00 howver, it's going to cos t me $100.00 to realign my back from the cart paths and broken pavement that I experienced. I just want to say... I played this course two years ago. It was worth every penny I spent. Question... Was I at a retirement facility or something that passed its self off of something that it WAS. Sorry. Never again. Even for $10.00
Good course for the money.
Greens are in great shape. Nice layout. Poor cart paths and no grill. But overall a good value
Back Nine was beautiful
The staff was not friendly at all. The girl working was sitting outside smoking when we got done. The course was ok. Greens were good but getting to the greens was rough. Tee box markers are awful. 2x2 are hard to see... Maintence staff rode around course all day when it was clear they could have been doing things to the course to make it look better. Beautiful layout, beautiful scenery but spend some money and this course would be awesome!
This course is a great value for the money.
This course is a good deal for the money. Quick pace of play and friendly staff. Some beautiful scenery as well. The course does need some work to get it back to what it was when it was a private course, but still in good shape compared to other courses in the area.
Love playing this long difficult course. i
Could be in better condition but for price you cannot beat it. Nice cool day and enjoyed our round.
No wonder I played for $14.00
The staff was very kind and very appreciative of my coming. For a Saturday there were very few people playing. The grill was not open. The greens were very poor and rough. The fairways were the same. The course could be a very enjoyable round if they had the money to spend. There are too many courses around to waste my time again here.
John's review
I paid $10 on GolfNow to play Quarry Hills. I and my fellow players opinions were that we paid $9.75 too much. Worst golf course I have played all year. The up keep of the course was very very minimal. They need to plow it under. I'll never play there again.
Good value
I play here for the best price in the area. Greens are slower than others, so you can be aggressive and really go after the pin. Great course for someone new to the game or looking for a casual round with friends. Watch out for poison ivy, easy to lose (or find) balls
Overall quality of course is poor.
I would describe as "not worth playing". Rode 18 for $20 and it definitely wasn't worth it.
The old gray mare ain't what she used to be
I used to work at Quarry Hills as a young man, and saw how great the course was in those days, so it's hard for me to review the course without thinking of those days. With that being said, the bones of a good course are still there. The fairways leave a bit to be desired, and the greens have some bad spots. But for what they are charging that should be expected. It has some nice holes, but overall it's hard to give them better than a two star review with the lack of green in the fairways and rough, bumpy greens. Wish it was better. Will continue to play it for the memories but for the golf, you can do better in this area.
It was ok
I thought it was ok the greens could've been a lot better
The course needs some renovations
Construction noise and recently aerated greens made the round difficult. With a little money to update the course it could be one of the better private courses in the area.
great layout, rough condition
Course is undergoing rough transition back to its former glory. Needs significant tlc before I would play there again.
What a waste!!!
We'll I've heard all about everything this course has been through over the past 10 yrs. (multiple owners and foreclosures). I had to check it out for myself.
The Good- layout (except for #9). Sad to see an Ellis Maples design go to waste like it has.
The Bad- staff. Very cold, like they didn't want to even be there.
Clubhouse- was hot and musty, turn on the AC!!!
Fairways- were in horrible shape. Some had been cut and some had not. Are you serious? On a weekend? Looks like the grass is a month behind other courses in the area.
Cart Paths- what cart paths? I've been golfing for 35 years and these are the worst I've seen
Greens- you can tell they were good and well designed at some point. Poor maintenance has caught up to them. There are lines of dead spots on each green where the mowing equipment has leaked fluid on them.
Bunkers- wow!!! Very inconsistent. Some have sand, some don't. The ones that do are very hard and compact. I couldn't even make a mark with the rake.
Food/Restaurant- looks like a nice grill upstairs on the main level but it wasn't open. Had to go downstairs to discover they were only serving hot dogs, and they were out of buns so they asked me if I wanted it served on a slice of white bread. Beverage options were slim, only had 1 kind of beer in stock, cooler was almost completely empty.
Intangibles- this area had an ice storm almost 3 months ago and they haven't cleaned up anything, especially #2. Better not be off the fairway on any hole or you had better bring plenty of balls. The entire course is almost unplayable. I have played 5 courses within a few miles of this place (since the ice storm) and you can't even tell anything happened. This course looks like the ice storm was yesterday.
NO WATER ON THE ENTIRE COURSE?!?!?! Are you serious? Due to sanitary reasons? So I guess every other course in the U.S. has figured out how to be sanitary but Quarry Hills has not.
Good course for the money
First time playing the course. We only played 9 holes and it was a fun and a little challenging with a couple narrow fairways and some water. Good course for the money!
GREAT PRICE
GREAT PRICE GOOD CONDITION INTERESTING HOLES FAST GREENS
Course very poorly maintained
Nice design however has been abandoned in terms of maintance foot bridges to greens in creeks, lots of weeds, rough not mowed - shameful to do this to such a nice design
Has potential
This course could be really nice if it was kept up better. Nice layout.
Greens fairways and paths are in poor condition. Looks like lots of weeds.
Needs better cleanup
Course is looking bad ... Real bad.
We have played here multiple times over the past two years and the course just seems to be getting worse every time we return. This last time was worse than ever because the cart path was horrible and as you cross the bridge on 8, we were concerned of falling through the ply board they used to cover the holes on the little bridge. The greens were so inconsistent, some where shaggy and others were good, some were rock hard and others were muddy. The layout is great and the tee shot on 13 is amazing with the rock quarry giving you a blind shot to the fairway. The course has a lot of potential but needs A LOT of TLC. If you can play for under $12, it a great deal, otherwise I would play at other local courses.
