Too costly for a course in mediocre shape
I had played this course several years ago and was told it was in better shape. Took a chance on the suggestion and was sorely disappointed. Greens a full of pock marks where people apparently refuse to fix their ball marks. Cart paths were horrendous and jarred you to pieces since there is broken concrete all over the course on the cart paths. My back is still hurting hours after getting off of the course. Bunkers have grass growing out of them and this is the same issue I had years ago with the course. Surely charging a senior $40.00 during the week to play they could spend some money on grass killer and have the bunkers clean. There are way to many courses in the area at a similar or better price that are in tremendously better condition to play. This will be my last time playing this course.
Highland Creek Golf Club
Highland Creek is seeing heavy play this summer due to the fact that two nearby courses are closed to have their greens redone. The course is in good shape with lush bermuda fairways and rough. The greens are holding up well in the summer heat and may be replaced next year themselves. The layout is quite challenging as putting the ball in play off the tee is key to playing well here. Water hazards come into play on half of the holes, and the greens are often well protected with bunkers. The staff is great, and they have supplemented their cart fleet with cars from sister courses.
Disappointing Play pace
We arrived in time for our tee time to find out there had been a frost delay which caused all the times to be delayed (understandable). A threesome was pushed in front of us despite having a later tee time. Ultimately was ~35 minute delay. From there, every hole we waited on. This caused our play time (from initial tee off) to end up being 5 hours which in my opinion is unacceptable. One of players mentioned to the course monitor that there was a significant hold up but that didn't seem to change anything. The reason I selected a 12:48pm tee time was assuming we'd be done before the sun started setting. That was not the case and ended up rushing the last 5 holes to wrap up before the sun set. Very disappointed.
Course with Great Potential
I played Highland Creek regularly when it first opened in the mid-90's and it was a great course. Challenging layout with excellent variety in the holes requiring you to hit all the clubs in your bag. It went into decline but in the past few years, they have pumped money into the course and it has improved greatly. I think they should continue to do so since the course has the potential to be one of the best in the area. The greens are good but not great and given the many slopes(arguably only one flat green on the course) makes putting here very challenging. Instead of golf carts they should give out ATV's given the poor condition of the paths. That said I still enjoy playing here and would recommend others to try it out.
Great Shape
The course, from tee to green, was in pretty good shape. Greens were in great shape, and tough to read, great challenge.
Nice course
Played in the afternoon after rain all morning, greens were in good shape creek runs through most of the course was pleasantly surprised will definitely play again.
must visit
course in great shape, greens full and rolling nicely. if you are in the charlotte area you need to play here. good challenge for even good golfers.
Fun and Challenging Course & Nice Staff
I very much enjoyed the course. The front nine offers plenty of lateral hazards and obstructions to help you practice course management and shot shaping. The layout of the course adds to the challenge with plenty of dog legs. I recommend playing this course if you want to get better.
Now, the cart path was also challenging. It looked like an earthquake came through and shifted the concrete up, down, left, and right. We also had a huge downpour of rain prior to my tee time, so I had to drive even slower to avoid the pools of water.

Very nice layout. Tee boxes were thin. Greens were sanded and slow to putt. Would like to play it in the spring.
Average golf @ Highland Creek
Average experience.
There are way too many blind shots with rolling hills and berms. You easily get in trouble with fairway and green side bunkers.
#18 is a 470 yard par 5. You have to clear about 150 yards of water which is fine as long as the wind isn't blowing
