The aesthetics here are as good as any I can ever remember playing. The maintenance staff takes great pride and care in presenting this mountain retreat. The result is an uncommon wow factor.

Fazio took advantage of a great natural setting with immense elevation changes. The smooth, fast greens were stimping 13 and require every bit of your concentration throughout. Otherwise, you are subject to being humbled. Repeatedly.

Details are important here. The comfort stations offer up most anything you desire. And small wooden boxes containing mini tees can be found on every par 3 tee box. And there are five of them, two of which offer sideboards that can be used to kick approach shots toward the hole on the other side of the green. It is tremendous fun.

There also was a first for me in all of my travels. We spotted a small black bear crossing the 12th fairway while we were walking off the green.

My buddy likened the Cashiers/Highlands area to Hilton Head on the side of a mountain. The area is littered with courses, including some of the best mountain golf in the country. Mountaintop is a special canvas that belongs among the top of the list.

Amazing

Simply stated, Mountaintop is a fabulous golf experience. The views will literally take your breath away (#2 from the back tees). Your camera will never be more valuable than the day you play here. The comfort stations are loaded with any kind of food and drink you'll ever want. If you ever get the chance, make the trip.

Western North Carolina Shining Star

Mountaintop provides a golf experience that is unforgettable. From the moment you arrive the staff wants to make sure you, the player has a memorable day. When I arrived, I was shown the driving range where upbeat/rock music was playing on the speakers. Club Professionals, lead by Director of Golf Micah Hicks were on the range to help with any free instruction. The practice facility is large and better than most I see on the PGA Tour. The Tom Fazio design takes advantage of the high elevation with stunning yet challenging holes. It's not a very difficult layout but it's far from a pushover. The greens were VERY GOOD. They were fast with a true roll. Any missed putt is the players fault, not the condition of the green. To enhance the experience there are comfort stations on the course that has everything to make a round fantastic like sandwiches, salads, energy bars, candy and beverages. You just take what you want. After the round you can enjoy the rustic elegance of the clubhouse and restaurant. I racked my brain after playing Mountaintop to find something critical of this Club. I can honestly say, there is nothing I could think of. This is one of the best courses and experiences I've had as a player and I highly recommend Mountaintop if you get the opportunity.

A true VIP expierence

I have been fortunate enough to make two trips to Mountaintop, hands down the two best golf trips I will ever go on. There is not a single detail overlooked at Mountaintop, it really is a VIP experience from the second you drive on to the property. The most difficult and beautiful course I have ever played. Very steep elevation changes and fast sloping greens with breath taking views on nearly every tee box. It is every golfers dream to play a course like Mountaintop.
