Legacy
Legacy continues to improve. New sod in rough and fairways; greens in perfect winter conditions.
Return to an old favorite
Returned to a course that I had not played in 15+ years. Course was familiar but the course had done a lot of work removing trees and opening up the course from what I remember. Also, there is a few houses visible that were new. Course was in great shape for winter golf and I sure this summer it is going to be perfect for play.
Very nice.
Great layout. Greens are very challenging due to speed and slope.
Great course! Making steady improvement. Winter rates are great value. Regular season rate WAY overpriced though!!! Like most area Pinehurst courses trying to take advantage of visitors for golf packages !!
Professional type greens
Nice course and layout. Greens are smooth and really fast.
Legacy December 1, 2023
I had not played Legacy Links for approximately 10 years. It was a great layout in a rural setting, unlike many of the golf communities in and around the Pinehurst area. Unfortunately, the development work has been booming at Legacy. The construction site on your entrance by the practice range is only the beginning of the changes. Most of the front nine abuts some type of infrastructure or building construction. It was virtually impossible to concentrate on a single shot with dump trucks, cement mixers, generators and nail guns going constantly. Not what I was expecting, but it should be well appointed and quite attractive when all the work is completed.
Pleasant Surprise
Greens in excellent shape, fairways mostly dormant but in decent shape. Have played this course many times over the years and this was the first time I’ve made it around in 4 hours. Usually backed up and extremely slow, so the pace of play was a welcomed benefit. Good layout, with a variety of holes.
Grumpy Locals (Members?) Display Bad Etiquette
There was no starter or ranger on duty. We played as a twosome. We had 2 twosomes directly in front of us and a foursome of local guys in front of them. We were followed by a foursome. The first twosome was so slow that we had a two group backup on the 9th tee. As we were leaving the 9th green the GOM foursome cut in front of us just before we reached the 10th tee when the group behind us was on #9 green. The GOMsome claimed they had to stop at 9 because the twosome behind them kept hitting into them. This was implausible on its face. Incredibly one of the GOMsome shamelessly took a mulligan on the 10th tee when his first drive remained in play. When we saw that we thought maybe their mulligans were the reason the twosome might have been hitting into them. We followed them as they played a leisurely back 9 as they parked their carts near the greens while ignoring the cart signs. On the 17th hole we watched them leisurely fish for balls in the pond in front of the green. The twosome that was in front of us on the front nine probably finished 25-30 minutes ahead of the GOMsome. We thought if the GOMsome had been nice they would have let us play through. No such luck. We told the pro shop staffer. He was profusely sorry and made a peace offering that we accepted.
Course is not overseeded.
Did the course overseed this year? Cannot find any recent photos unfortunately.
