Solid Course in Good Shape

Play this course several times a year. Always an enjoyable round. Prices good, especially for NY residents, though prices do go up during peak (ie Track) season. Generally wide and flat .... easy walk...but challenging greens. Sand traps are in good shape and fairways in excellent condition. The rating/slope (128) from white tees is probably too high ... my HCP always goes down after playing here.

Great warm up

First time playing the course. In all honestly is pretty flat and wide so the real challenge is on the greens. Very challenging greens. They were recently aerated and sanded but they were still pretty quick. Definitely a storable layout. Fairways were in pretty good condition taking into consideration the time of year. Very picturesque with the towering evergreens and pine trees. I would definitely recommend this course to all handicappers. The scratch golfers can appreciate the length playing from the bllack tees. Not much interaction with the staff as the club house is closed due to Covid. The cart guy was pretty friendly though as well as the starter.

Great classic design track with plenty of length

As much play this course gets from locals/tourists, conditions were remarkable for a state funded course. Had a early morning tee time and paired with players that kept s good pace. Thus my round was finished in 3 hours 50 minutes. Tee boxes were decent and fairways are in great condition. Due to the amount of play, you will find greens with fresh unfixed divots. Overall, I had a wonderful time with beautiful weather and friendly staff. A definite must play if you happen to be in the Saratoga Springa area.

Easy Rider

I love everything about this course.

I was a single walk in and was paired with three great guys. Every community should have a Saratoga Spa where golfers can go to meet like-minded souls and have a good time. The course was in good shape and mostly uninterrupted in nature. There's enough challenge to keep any level of player interested but not beat guys like me up.
One of the locals told me about the changes he's seen over 30-40 years of playing there. Sounds like all have been for the better.
Another playing partner was a member at Pinehurst, yet he called Saratoga Spa his favorite course. That tells you all you need to know about how rock solid this place is.

Great Course in a Great City

This is a great course located right in the heart of Saratoga Springs.

The course is in the Saratoga State Park, which is awesome by itself. They have a great Concert venue steps away.

Always a good day to play 18 then go tailgate for a good concert.

The course is fairly open with a great layout. It is a moderate difficulty with the opportunity to have a great round.

The pricing is cheaper before the Saratoga Race Track opens. Either way, it is worth the cost.

It is fairly easy to reserve a tee time and is a great course for players of all levels!

Recommend for any golf enthusiast.

Highly enjoyable!

This is an update from my prior review. I don't know if any work was done, but the green complexes were outstanding. The good-sized greens have terrific slope and they were in great shape. The bunkers seem much improved. This course is in a very nice setting playing through the pines and the park, has fairly wide fairways and strategic options, and nice movement through a gently rolling property. It is an enjoyable classic.

Classic design in great shape!

The course was in great shape. It is maintained to promote quick play with low height of rough which helps out your score and your handicap.

I had not played the Spa course in 4 years and since then, they have modified the design of a few holes for the better.

All staff were very friendly and they have a well stocked pro shop with competitive pricing.

I would recommend this course to anyone, especially to those looking to lower your handicap index as I think the slope of 128 is overrated for the men's white tee box. I had my lowest round here!

Fun golf in a great setting

I would give it 3-1/2 stars. This course is in the Saratoga State Park and it is a beautiful setting as you play through stately tall pine trees. Although a parkland course there is plenty of room to hit driver off the tee. The course is in good shape and I enjoyed the front nine in particular. It has a nice variety of par-4s and 5s and is easy to walk. The par-3s were all about the same length (mid-iron distance) and the back nine started to feel more routine, but still very enjoyable. The greens get marked up a bit but otherwise are interesting with slopes and contours. A very good course.

Classic

State course under private management and it shows from best bunkers in the area to mature trees throughout. Fun and challenging from the tips to the gold tees. New tenth green good improvement. Lot of play on weekends and Tee boxes show it. Best time to play is 3-4 PM; course usually wide open although track season is busy. Greens are large, well maintained and fair with subtle breaks. Only 2 water holes

Pleasantly Pleased

Played for the first time today, got out right on time, paired with 3 nice players. Most tee boxes were in good shape, fairways smooth and lush, greens in great shape but a little slow. Played from the white tees, about 6300 yards. Fairways were hard, so got nice roll. Water on only 2 holes, bunkers were in beautiful shape. Greens has some deceptive break and rolled very true. Overall, a very pleasant round and would definitely play there again.

Regaining It's Excellence

The Saratoga Spa course has long been a favorite but has needed upgrades for years. I'm very happy to say many improvements have been made with more to come which has restored this great old course to "championship". quality. It's a superb layout and now with a rebuilt 10th green, new sand and better conditioned fairways. Again a must play!

Must have been a rough winter

Great old course that suffered a bit this winter and spring rains. Still a long way from regaining "championship" caliber. Tee boxes were all sand and crabgrass, fairways not mowed with any distinction from first cut rough. Wonderful old resort setting and great quiet location = over priced, especially for visitors.

This course in fun and a good value

Located in a beautiful state park, this course has an interesting and challenging layout. It was in good shape, but suffered a little do to lots of play. Being a popular course, with lots of walkers, on a beautiful September Saturday resulted in a round close to 5 hours. With this in mind it was fun and a good value.
