Plainfield Country Club sprawls across gently rolling hills that Donald Ross, the designer of the course, tried to closely follow in his design. Ross was successful in creating a delightfully uneven golf course with greens that slope, twist, and turn. Many of the challenging greens slope from back to front and feature sharp drop-offs. The course has a traditional design that has been ranked as one of the best in the country by several water hazards come into play on five holes. There are also bunkers treacherously lurking around the greens and fairways. The final three holes are the most challenging, rounding off the course with a difficult par 4. Players won't need a driver on this dogleg left hole unless they try to carry the greens. Plainfield Country Club's 18th also features the course's most severe green, which features a false front and bunkers both left and right.
