Challenging layout, super friendly staff.

Second time playing Old York and the staff remained super friendly just like last time. Pretty unfair to judge the course conditions because it is a victim of heavy down pour on several holes. Four holes were cart path only for repairs so it's not neglected. Fairways are mid to narrow with greens on the smaller size. Most pins were 6 to 8 feet from the edge of the greens so scoring was pretty challenging under these conditions. Enjoyed a tasty meal prior to my round and would definitely play again if the opportunity presents itself. Definitely worth playing than dealing with usual shenanigans on public courses.

Course is pretty beat up right now

I've played this course 4x in the past and have always enjoyed myself. It has an interesting layout (although I'm not fond of #10 or #12) and has always been in good shape. With the recent heavy rains however, this course has taken a beating. It's no one's fault (although the tee boxes *were* pretty chewed up which surprised us) - it's just Mother Nature wreaking havoc, particularly on the fairways. I would imagine it will take several weeks before it's back in decent shape. If you have a Groupon like we did, wait until mid-August. NOTE: Normally I would give this course at least 4 stars, but want to warn people to give it some time to heal before venturing out.

Great Cours

As others have said, it started with a very nice greeting, pro shop was well stocked and very helpful. Starter gave a bit of the history which was very interesting. Course was immaculate, for September golf the fairways were shaped, rough was punishing but you are not supposed to play out of there anyway, green were huge and not one flat lie. Back pins were 6 feet off the back and front pins were 6 feet off the front. My only complaint about the day was the bartender at the Half way house, for a private country club his attitude was horrible, spent $31 on a soda, chicken and tuna salads. Found out about the course on Groupon, definitely worth taking the trip

Solid track, local knowledge would help with layout and greens

Just a beautiful designed track and facility overall. Was fortunate have the chance to play this private course and was happy I made a day out of it. As soon as I got to the bag drop, the starter drove up in a cart and greeted me graciously. While checking in the pro shop, the staff was super friendly and helpful. Course conditions were close to perfect compared to many top clubs. Tee boxes had few divot marks, fairways were perfectly manicured with just about all divot marks filled in. Greens rolled true with little to no bumps on putts. Not the longest course I played but challenging in several ways. Fairways strips are moderately narrow with landing areas in play forcing players to hit tee shots with different clubs. Most of the greens in size overall I find on the smaller size. Most of them have deceiving slopes and many have protected bunkers on at least two to three sides. Clean ball striking is a must off the tees and on approaches.
If your ever have the chance to play Old York, you should. It's too bad I don't reside in the area to play it more often.

Gary Player Design

A challenging Gary Player Design Course. Local knowledge would be important here. Some forced carries and some blind shots. Fairways are scalloped, so you might think you are in the fairway, but alas you are in heavy rough. Mounding on some holes framing the fairways, but rarely comes in to play. If you’re in the rough it will cost you. Its private, so if you get the chance, take it.

Walking with a caddie was not mandatory

Hi Ozzone, since this is a private club, is walking with a caddie mandatory? Is a golf cart an option or not?
