Easy fairways, tough greens

The round started with frustration as our tee time of 11:04 was interupted by tournament priority and we were over 30 minutes late teeing off. No apology and pretty sloppy course and tournament management.

Once we got started we were able to enjoy the course. The fairways are generally wide and forgiving which is good because the course is subject to strong winds that can make it tough to get distance or accuracy depending on the hole and wind direction.

Greens are well kept and fast. Most greens are interesting slopes with lots of up and down breaks. They are not too hard to read but hard to play and very hard to judge short chips from the edges but makes for an interesting competition around the short game.

Enjoyable even in the rain. Course much Improved!

I'm from the Chicago area, where golfers are 'spoiled' with access to a high number of quality golf courses and very reasonable pricing. The midwest land lends itself willingly to the sport as it may be moved, shaped, and trenched easily to allow for excellent drainage and irrigation and a variety of hardy grasses.
In contrast, I realize that New England in general is far more difficult and expensive to engineer and maintain a course for optimal performance. Fortunately, there are those who know how to handle these tough conditions and make the most of the available landscape and Sagamore Hampton does this and provides a quality golf experience that any avid golfer can appreciate.

I have played this course several times over the years and though cost may be higher than I'm accustom to at home, I have never been disappointed which I cannot say for some other golf courses in region which would better serve as cattle pastures than golf courses.

It was a very rainy day (non-stop) but the course was perfectly playable. In fact, it was well maintained as I have ever seen it. Despite the rain which was quite heavy at times, the grounds crew was out mowing and working as they would any other day. I was most impressed by how the greens remained firm under foot even after hours of steady rainfall. Despite some players not repairing their ball marks (I repaired at least three more than my own on every green), the greens were tight, consistent and ran true. The tee boxes and fairways were in great shape, nicely defined, and the rough was cut in a way that doesn't have you searching for your ball in a wide open space. I always appreciate that. All in all, a very fun round and we finished in 3.5 hours with very little delay. Afterward we hung out at the clubhouse which has a very inviting and relaxed feel and had the pleasure of speaking with some of the staff who really could not have been more friendly or accommodating.
Thank you Sagamore Hampton for all the improvements you have made and for delivering a quality golf experience on an otherwise cloudy, rainy day. We'll be back!

The absolute worst

Buyer Beware. Do not golf here. This course is the absolute worst course I have ever played and the customer service is that of a high school concession stand. Do not go here.

Nice, friendly public golf course

We called up for our tee time , but were able to go out early when we got to the course . Everyone was very pleasant & helpful since it was our 1st visit. The course was in nice shape & the greens were running true. I think these conditions could get iffy with a hot summer. The course is not long but provides a nice challenge with small greens. The layout on the back nine provides more of a challenge . They do have a beverage cart that comes around frequently. We enjoyed our round & look forward to playing it again.

Nice course, great location

Are "Links" members and have to say that this course was quite enjoyable. Started out as a twosome but quickly became a foursome.... it was truly enjoyable.
This course has distinctive grass height cuts and the deep cut really makes one be sure of your shot. Greens were quick, some in better shape than others. Beverage cart person seemed to find us every three to four holes which was nice. Some holes uphill... some downhill, some very long, but overall not a bad first time course for us.

Very Dependable Public Golf

We have all whizzed by Sagamore Hampton hundreds of times of Rt 95 in NH. From the highway you can see a wide open group of holes that are always green and teeming with golfers. Getting off the highway and over to the course is a bit of an adventure. Once there you know you are at a course that has public golf course pretty well figured out. The course is well laid out over several rolling hills and wooded areas. Half the holes are wide open and fairly attackable. The other half have tree lined fairways that although they are not terribly tight, by contrast to the aforementioned open holes, they seem rail thin. Then there are the hills. The 8th hole is almost all hill, first going up and then down and then up again to a severely pitched green. This is not a cinch par 5. The 17th is a long downhill par 3, through a chute to a green that seems elusive. There are drivable par 4's and sneaky little creeks that come into play. The course is well maintained and considering the massive amounts of play it gets, is in remarkable shape. The rough and native grasses are tough and you may wonder how you lost a ball just 20 feet off the fairway, but it can happen. The course will not be hosting any major tournaments or topping any best of lists, but that is not its purpose. None of these foibles keep the hordes of loyal golfers from coming out. Some day you should veer off I-95 and see for yourself why Sagamore Hampton keeps packing them in year after year.

Good course, good prices.

Sagamore is an interesting course that is well maintained. Layout is a mix of wide-open holes and tight narrow ones. A decent amount of elevation change makes this course a little tricky. Some of the greens are extremely sloped and almost impossible to keep the ball on depending on the pin locations. (I would say they're unfair and need to be changed but the course is easy and I think the owners keep the greens this way to make it play harder). Yardages are marked off, 150 being the most visible.

Overall its an average course that's well maintained and has some bad greens in order to artificially make the course harder than it is. The back 9 is a lot better than the front.
