Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2012.

D'Andrea Golf Club harks on the natural in Reno golf. Course architect Keith Foster did his best to give to let the scenery - which includes rolling fairways, desert canyons and back nine climbs - star in this 6,849-yard course. In Foster's view there wasn't a need to trick a lot of things up.

Which means vacationing golfers get a course set on a bluff overlooking the Sierra Nevada mountains. And plenty of mountain views. There is water on two holes (No. 6 and 7), but the forced desert clears on the par 3s are much more likely to mess with your mind.

No. 1 does a good job of setting the natural tone. It's a 424-yard par 4 that has you shooting straight at a mountain - toward a raised green. Then just when you get used to clearing desert, you come to seven. This is the longest hole on the course (553 yards) and there's a long forced water carry right off the tee. Then you're doglegging your way down a bunker-dotted fairway.

In a Reno area that's known for being a haven for nature lovers, D'Andrea can keep the atmosphere going on the golf course.
