At Bear's Best, a 7,194-yard track about 20 minutes from The Strip, the Jack Nicklaus design team stuck to recreating holes from other Jack desert designs, making them actually almost fit into the natural surroundings. (Aside from the black sand bunkers and that's just so cool, you don't mind).

Plus, they made the fairways wide, giving your ordinary golfer a good chance to get through the day smiling. You won't post a career-low score at Bear's Best, but you won't lose four sleeves of balls, either.

Four of the holes are replicas from Desert Mountain in Scottsdale, but also features holes from Nicklaus' Spain and Mexico work. The best thing about Bear's Best may be how the Nicklaus team, often accused of making their courses too tough, kept the average hacker in mind.

Yet what really sets Bear's Best up as a great play is the service. Every foursome gets their own forecaddie and the staff can make you feel like a VIP.

"Bear's Best is probably the greatest overall experience we've had on a course," regular Las Vegas golf visitor Josh Isadore said. "The guys are still talking about it."

Class act. Greens were a bit bumpy but no complaints other than that.

Scenic conditions

After hearing all the fabulous reviews about this course from previous trips, I was slightly disappointed after playing a round. The greens were bumpy, especially on the back nine. Average speed when compared to other courses in the area. Really disappointed to warm up on matts, especially in the chipping area when the grass looks like it’s ready for play. I can respect if the course is dry or winter conditions don’t allow for continuous driving range use but when the grass is green, healthy and ready for play, hard to justify to warm up on matts. Staff was friendly, helpful. Not sure I would play there again when there are other courses offering a far better Jack Nicklaus experience, especially for the price.

Nice course

It's a good course but they should create a hybrid scorecard between 6000 yards and 6600 as it will players more options. Also think the rough should be overseed so it looks nicer.

Interesting holes

Interesting set of holes.
Got behind a couple of groups that were together and seemed to connect back up at tees and greens slowing play for everyone. Eventually walked off on -6 as it passed back by the clubhouse because it was taking too long for the round.

Course in good condition. Pace was much slower than expected and marshals said try were speeding things up but it didn’t happen. Fortunately 16 ends back at the clubhouse so it was easy to walk off at which point there were 8 people coming off the 18th.

Awful course

Avoid this course! No par mates come here that is a sign this course is not a main course selection in the Vegas area. I could not visualize where the fairways are on the course and it’s because most of it is rock bunkers and lousy sand traps. If my plane crashed in the middle of the desert, and I had my golf clubs that is what Bears Best is like playing. Just 18 flag sticks scattered among desert terrain and rocks. To top it off the ranger harassed us all round for slow play and yet we watched a group in front of us playing all day. Never coming back here again!

Great Course/Layout

Great course/layout. Worth playing at least once. Price was a little on the steep side for what you get. If you’re a “resident,” you can play for the right price. If not, be looking to pay about 30 - 50% more.
Overall, great course. It’s nice to play a course that a legend put together of some of his favorite holes.

Love This Course

Course in great condition even with a lot of the turf in dormancy. Still plenty of green grass in fairways. Spectacular views of mountains and strip, along with unusual architecture of ritzy surrounding homes.
