Black Mountain Golf & Country Club is conveniently less than a half hour from the Las Vegas Strip, but you would think it was much further thanks to the stunning backdrop provided by the Mojave Desert. Set amid majestic mountains and beautiful desert vegetation, the golf course offers one of the most unique experiences in the Las Vegas Valley. The 18-hole golf course is comprised of two distinct nines: Founders, the original nine built in 1957 and Horizon, which opened in 1963. The course opens with its own version of Amen Corner, a challenging trio of holes that will test even the most skilled golfers. Black Mountain Golf & Country Club's back nine is more open than the front and also has more birdie opportunities. There are strategically placed bunkers lurking along the greensides on both nines and water hazards also come into play.

It could be better
Fairways were in awful condition. Pace of play was slow. NO course marshal to speed up play.
Very poor shape.
Super Bowl Sunday meant uncrowded play. We were shocked at the poor conditions of the fairways. Hitting off dry, dormant grass everywhere. Poorly maintained. Have not seen worse in the Vegas area. Will not play there again.
Poor
All the grass was dead. The greens were the worse I have ever seen. The pace of play was so slow that after 4 hours and 39 minutes I had to leave without finishing the last hole.
Slowest round ever played
We were just a twosome & the foursome in front of us never let us play through. On the back 9 a foursome of women jumped on in front of the foursome in front of us. At times it was 5-8 minutes between shots. Terrible time & no 1 was controlling the pace of play.
Good course.
It's Winter at Black Mountain. The Bermuda fairways are the typical hay of Winter but plenty of roll. The greens are good. This is a busy course but very little waiting. Staff helpful and friendly.
Don't waste your money!
Played on Jan 30, 2017 with a golf trip.
Course is in rough shape.
The greens are watered, everything else is dry.
Fairways are brown, everything is dormant.
Bunkers need work.
The restaurant was fine. Pass on everything else.
Not many people playing the course this day, so the locals know it's not worth the money.
Fairways are shot
Fairways are completely dead, but the greens are in decent shape and fast. I may spend 20-25 to play it, but nothing more at this time...
Drying fairways
Fairways are turning brown but greens are still in good shape. Fun course to practice my golf game. Staff are excellent, helpful and friendly.
Black Mountain does not overseed the golf course with winter ryegrass, so you are seeing dormant bermudagrass.
Not bad for the price
Having just moved to the Las Vegas area, I hadn't played here before but decided to take a chance for $20. It's a little crammed into a housing/industrial development, some of the scenery is less than ideal but it was still golf. The greens are small and fast, the fairways are not what you'd get at a $60 course, the traps were hard-packed. But the staff was friendly, we played in 3 1/2 hours, the weather was perfect and I still enjoyed myself.
Nice
Great Staff ..very friendly and Awesome Customer Service!!!!! First time playing this course and I would rate it 4 out of 5 stars.
Black Mountain Experience
The course was in satisfactory condition and the course difficulty was a good fit for our group.
SLOW PLAY
THE FRONT NINE WAS PLAYED IN ABOUT 1 1/2 HOURS THE BACK NINE TOOK 3 HOURS. THEY HAD SOME MEMBERS TOURNAMENT WHICH WERE PLAYING 6 SOMES WHICH REALLY SLOWED THE 4 SOMES UP ON THE BACK 9
nice gteens
greens were putting fast and true. they do a good job maintaining it.

Layout.
Very basic, easy layout. I feel it doesn't challenge you. I must say the have awesome fast greens there. Big plus at least for me.
Easy access and course in good condition considering time of year
Enjoyed playing the course friendly atmosphere
About the course
The fairways and greens were in good condition.
The sand traps however need more sand in them and golfers need to understand that they need to be raked once their play in the trap is done.
Thank you for your feedback. We are always looking to improve course conditions and take your comments very seriously. Look forward to having you back soon and making up for this experience.
Worth the cost
Course was in better shape than the views from the drive in. Friendly staff. Played by myself, I got jammed up on the first few tee boxes. On hole three a twosome of beginners offered me to play through. The threesome of men after that were putsy and did not budge on letting go ahead. Had to
wait on the tee's and in the fairways. My second nine was a little quicker. Felt I was rushing the couple ahead of me, which I wasn't. I think monitoring the starts would be a cure to this, instead of "whenever you are ready, go down to the first tee". Overall, I enjoyed my first day of visiting Vegas. Lot cheaper rates for residents!
Black Mountain Experience
Had great weather(70's & 80's with breeze) so played roughly 10 to 4:15. Pace of play was good. Fairways and greens were in great shape and even the rough was playable, for it was only moderately high. Got out right on time; course officials were friendly but efficient. Practice facility very good as well. Overall my wife & I had a good round.
Black Mountain does not overseed with winter ryegrass. The fairways are currently dormant bermuda in the winter and are not dead.
