Creative bunkering buoys a decent course at a high-minded private club
You learn a lot about golf courses from talking to the folks working the bag drop. That was especially true of Shadow Ridge, where the extremely friendly and attentive high-schooler who cleaned my clubs told me he and his colleagues are not allowed to play the golf course at any time. This surprised me, as access to the course is in practically every case a perk of working at a golf course.
In addition to some nice elevation changes, the main selling point of Shadow Ridge's golf course is the bunkering, which does much of the strategic lifting on most holes, especially as disappointingly flat as the greens are. The par-3 13th with a bunker in the middle of the green is a novelty hole that sticks out in a mostly positive way, but my sense is that there are far better golf experiences elsewhere in Omaha. Though I will say that the club facilities - pool, tennis, golf practice area - are very nice, as long as you're welcome.
