The Old Works Golf Course in Anaconda is Montana's only Jack Nicklaus-designed course. The course is situated on land that was used as a copper smelter in the 1880s. Its location along Warm Springs Creek offers glimpses of the old mining remnants that reside along the surrounding hillsides. These remnants include huge piles of black slag, which are creatively utilized in the bunkering. Reminders of the land's rich history were carefully kept in tact throughout the golf course. The layout features large, undulating greens and generous fairways framed by native grasses that blend seamlessly into the landscape. The creek comes into play on a few holes, including along the entire left side of the fairway on the opening hole. This tricky par-4 is a good introduction to the skill and strategy needed at Old Works Golf Course.
