Winter Weekend Rates Too High With Carts On Path Policy

Some public courses are now going to a carts on path policy, once the zoysia grass goes dormant. The Golf Club of Wentzville is one of those courses.

The course has only reduced their weekend greens fees by $12 for winter rates and you have to keep the carts on the path. This rate and cart policy is not going to bring people out to play. It was the emptiest I've ever seen the parking lot on a weekend - with a nice, sunny, fall day with the high's in the 60's.

The greens were on the slow side today. However, the overall conditions of the course was good for mid-November. The course also has new golf carts.

You can find courses with lower weekend green fees and allow carts in the fairway in the off-season. I would look for these and not play this course until the Spring time. They are losing a lot of revenue with this cart policy.

Pricing gone mad

Use to be our groups favorite course but like many courses lately, they have increased prices to insane levels and cut back on amenities. Pro shop has little to offer as far as merchandise or food/Beverage. Staff could take some customer service training.
I like the layout and the back 9 and is always fun, but not worth $60+ on a weekend with so many options in the STL area.

One Of My Favorites To Play

I always like coming out the Golf Club of Wentzville to play. I know it will be a friendly, relaxed vibe at this course. One of the few golf courses who let you take carts out to the parking lot. Nice layout, not overly difficult. The difficult holes are 5, 8, 9, 10. Overall the tees, fairways and greens are in great shape. The course is reasonabily price for the weekends at $63.

The only issues I saw were the 5th tee is in rough shape. The rough just off the fringes had quite a bit of dead, brown grass.

Fun Course To Play

Always enjoy playing at the Golf Club of Wentzville. A relaxed, friendy vibe you get playing here. The price of $62 on the weekend is right for the course you are getting.

In general, The course was in great shape. Tees, fairways and greens. The greens had good speed to them. They have been watered a lot. Huge ball marks when your ball landed on the green.

The only issue with the conditions of the course, was the rough, especially around the greens is mostly brown and dead.

The pace of play was slow on the first nine but got better on the back because a twosome dropped out after nine holes.

Excellent Conditions On A Fun Track

First time playing the course this year, I last played it August last year. I was really impressed with the conditioning of the course. Can't get much better than this. With a weekend rate of $62, it has an attractive green fee rate.

It is in better shape than the Landings at Spirit ($72), Annbriar ($75) and Aberdeen ($72).

The greens had a good speed to them. It was the best this course has looked since I started playing here. Get out to The Golf Club of Wentzville this year.

Course is in great shape

This course is worth every penny and an easy cart path only course. I really like how they give a heads up almost every morning so I know what to expect when I get there. You can get updates at https://www.facebook.com/GCofWentzville . Over all a great course, friendly staff, and I like to see that the pro shop is getting new/different items.

Good Conditions

The Golf Club of Wentzville is a fun, playable golf course that is always in good condition. Fairly wide open golf course with very few bunkers. On the front side, it has 3 harder holes (5, 8, 9). On the back side, the harder holes are 10, 14 & 17.

Overall, the condition of the course is very good. The only issue of the golf course is there are some rough areas in the rough. This is because of the excessive rainfall we had in late July. However, the course is planting grass seed with straw in numerous areas on the course. The white tee box on hole #5, was the worst tee box on the course.

The course is concerned about slow play because there was a ranger out on the course watching this.

Tees, Fairways & Greens in Great Shape

Overall, the tees, fairways and greens are in great shape. The greens were a bit on the slow side.

Due to significant rainfall/intense heat, that started around the end of July and went through most of August, there are sections of the rough which are not in good shape. These would include holes 1, 3 & 14. However, the course has numerous places in the rough where you see newly planted grass seed/straw. They had also put some new sod in some of the fairways. Good to see a course making improvements to the course.

The $60 green fee is in line with the overall shape of the course. It is a fun, playable course to play.

An enjoyable course in good condition

A fun and enjoyable course to play that was in good condition. The clubhouse is pretty small and isn’t much to look at but the two people working in there were friendly.

It seemed as if some top-dressing had been applied as the greens look like they are recovering from being punched a while ago. There was a lot of sand on all of the greens and hopefully that will make them nicer later but it provided for an uneven putting surface while we played.

The front nine was more interesting than the back nine. Thought that the holes on the back side all seem pretty similar and straight, with a couple of them right by a city road. However, the two par 3s did have fun elevation changes.

The greens and tee boxes were mostly in good shape. In addition, I’d say the fairways were excellent. For a sunny Sunday, the course was crowded and busy but it didn’t lead to a slow round. We got a "hot deal" rate but not sure I'd pay the full weekend price as it was a bit expensive for the quality of the course.

Nothing too exciting or difficult but a track that was in good all-around shape that I will play again.

Cart Path Only in Winter Months - No One Monitoring This

When you walk into the clubhouse, there is a sign that all Whittaker Golf Courses are cart path only from November 1 - March 15. Which is fine and many courses are moving to this. However, there is no course ranger to monitor this. The group in front was driving in the fairway as they pleased. I saw others doing the same thing.

The condition of the golf course was in good shape for early March. It is one of my favorite golf courses in the area. Fun, playable and a fair price.

In summary, if your policy is to have all players keep their carts on the cart path - then someone needs to ensure this is going on.

We do have a course advisor cart that our staff uses to monitor the course. We get out on the course often and may not always be in the course advisor cart. Additionally, we are staffed less in the fall/winter months but we do get out on the course.

Thank you for your in put,

Just A Fun Course To Play

Always like playing at the Golf Club of Wentzville. A fun course to play that has a nice variety of holes. A $30 greens fee during the week, in the off-season is nice.

They are always trying to make the course look nice. A conscientious effort today to rid the course of leaves. Leaf blowers and mowers to eliminate most of the leaves. Placing new sod by several tee boxes.
Hole 9 is the most difficult hole on the course. They made it more playable by removing several trees on the right side now.

The only issues i saw were some bare, low spots in some of the fairways. Hole 1 green is revovering from an oil leak from a mower. Greens on holes 2 & 3, had some minor tire tracks on them.

Recently Aerated Greens, Greens Fees Too High

Overall, this is one of my favorire courses in St. Louis metro area. A good mixture of easy, moderate and hard holes. Fun to play and usually in decent shape.

The greens were recently aerated and they do have some fairway drainage issues on a few holes (3, 4, 5). The top half of the 1st green has damage to it from oil leaking from a mower.

I thought the price of $62.50 was too high, considering it is late October and the greens were recently aerated. You can play the best course in the St. Louis metro area (Annbriar) for $70 - to show a comparision.

Belligerent staff member

I have played this course weekly for 8 years. Today i went in and a staff member i have never seen told me that i have to pay more than double to play. I questioned him and he said pay or don’t play. I agreed to the extra fee and said i would just talk to management later. He then started yelling st me that he was management and then he yelled get out. I calmly said “really” and he yelled leave or he will call the police to remove me. Before i could get any other words out he just kept shouting “LEAVE”. I left and will never go back to that course.
