Hidden Gem in Central MO
Had never heard of it until a couple weeks ago when googling places to play in the area. Great course. Good condition. Lots of fun holes. Not really that long (I believe just 6400 yards from the tips) - several risk reward par 4s and six par threes make it a fun one. The 18th is an island green and the signature hole but I personally felt hole #2 was the prettiest on the course. White sand bunkers give it a great look. Greens were just aerated about ten days before so not perfect but pretty decent and growing back in. Only downfall is the amount of play and slow pace. People everywhere! Play it if you are in the area!
Gem in Central MO
Had never heard of this course before a couple weeks ago when I was searching for courses in the area. Great course and great condition. It's a shorter course (around 6400 yards from the tips) but a fun one. Six par threes and a few risk reward short par fours. The white sand bunkers give it a great asthetic. Hole 18 is an island green ala tpc sawgrass and is the signature hole but I personally felt hole #2 was the prettiest hole out there. Greens were just aerated about 10 days prior so they werent 100% yet but not bad. The only negatives would be pace of play with tons of foursomes and a lot of holes going back and forth and errant shots criss crossing fairways.
My Favorite
There is no better value than the Mules National Golf Course. The course is scenic and challenging for all skill levels. You can't beat the price for such a quality course, especially when you throw in the areas best Club house and practice facilities. It's a tough walk because of the slope, but so pleasant if you can manage it. Go play and thank me later!
I love this place!
I play a lot of courses and nobody provides the kind of service these folks give you. There's always a friendly welcome and you are quickly on the course. Call the clubhouse and minutes later they are on the course delivering food and beverages to your cart. The course offers a lot of variety, it's fair (not too penal but still challenging enough), and it's always in good shape. I also appreciate the fact that a marshal is on the course helping to keep things moving and reducing the chances of a bonehead ruining your experience. And who doesn't love the island green on 18?
Best Value You Can Find
I have been a member if the University's golf team that plays on this course since 2015. Let me say, if you are in the area, you should play Mules National. It won’t cost you more than 10-20 dollars and you’ll be playing a fun and surprisingly challenging golf course. Don’t let the yardage fool you, as this course has six tough par threes that make the course play much longer than it’s actual yardage.
Furthermore, once you play this course, you’ll realize that they got the most out of the property the course has. Trust me on this one, you won’t be disappointed playing this course because of the great value you get!
As any golfer, you’ll want to know about the greens. The greens get a lot of play, so the pitch marks can be a problem. The green speeds are kept around a 9-10 I would say, but this is not a knock on them. There are such dramatic slopes to these greens in places, they can’t be much faster. Overall, I have appreciated the speed and smoothness of these greens.
To be realistic, there are a few things that this course struggles with. First, if you’re a player who likes tight tee boxes, you won’t like these tees. They are kept higher for some reason that I have never understood.
My biggest problem I have with this course is that ever since it was redesigned with the zoysia fairways, more and more creeping Bermuda has entered into the fairways and tees. Apparently it’s hard to kill Bermuda and not kill the zoysia, but it’s a shame to see the patches of Bermuda in the otherwise good zoysia fairways.
Other than that, I really think you’ll enjoy playing this fun track.
