Literally a museum to two-time U.S. Open champion Payne Stewart, who hails from Springfield, Mo., about an hour north of Branson. Both the course and the clubhouse pay tribute to the man who was killed in a 1999 plane crash, the same year he won the U.S. Open at Pinehurst. Each hole features a plaque that shares an anecdote about Stewart's life or career. The course itself is test that would have made Stewart proud, putting a demand on accurate tee shots, precision approaches and solid putting. Several tees are elevated, giving great views of the greens and water features below as well as the hilly surroundings in this Ozark Mountain setting. Inside the clubhouse, you'll also find photos, golf bags, replica trophies and other pieces of memorabilia that further tell the story of Stewart's brilliant - but too short - career.
