Worth the drive!

This a great course. Have played it a couple of times before and usually in great condition!
This time the greens weren’t the best.

Above average course for central MN

Course was in good shape. Lots of trees and tall grass to lose your balls in. Driving is often high risk/reward. Greens are nice but didnt feel like they broke as much as they should. Reasonably priced drinks were available from the drink cart. Played a 5-hr round on Father's day--pretty slow but not unexpected for a holiday. Make sure to show up early. They are very strict about their tee times. Also, if you're planning to golf as a single or in a twosome, expect to be paired up with another group.

worth the drive

Great course in central MN. Greens were smooth, fairways in great shape, rough was long and tee boxes were mowed and flat. Fun course to play in the wind, makes it much more challenging on the back 9. A must play if you are in the area.

Really Good Course in Farm Country

Blackberry Ridge Golf Course is located in farm country on the periphery of Sartell, Minnesota. The course is a combination of wide open fairways with very few trees and a few narrow fairways lined with mature oaks and evergreens. There are lots of undulations to the fairways and some elevation changes, but nothing too dramatic. The rough can be problematic, being just high enough to hide a ball unless you're right on top of it. Greens are surprisingly fast. Combined with some severe slopes, this makes putting downhill a matter of bump it and hope it'll hit the hole. At 6,992 yards from the back tees, 74.2 rating and 144 slope, the course is quite difficult. The middle (white) tees are a little more friendly at 6,238 yards, and that is what we played. It was still a difficult round. You'll start with a truly unique opening hole, a 356 yard dogleg left par 4. About 170 yards downrange, the fairway almost splits into a Y. At the center of the Y angle is a water hazard. You can choose to hit your drive straight, keeping the water on your left, but if you hit more than about 230 yards (from the white tees) you'll run out of fairway. A draw is dicey, because if you don't draw enough you'll be in the water and if you draw too much you'll be in the trees on the inside of the dogleg. All in our foursome chose to hit straight and one found the hazard. The others were left with short irons and wedges to the green. The remainder of the course includes long and short holes, straight holes and doglegs, and some forced carries over water. You won't be bored, you won't need driver on every hole, and you'll probably use every club in your bag. The par 4, 408 yard 7th has a fairway as wide as a soccer pitch, one of the widest fairways I've seen in Minnesota. But if you overswing and miss the fairway you might find yourself OB or in one of the well-placed fairway bunkers. For first-time players, the 478 yard par 5 12th seems like a simple hole from the tee box. There is water that must be carried to reach the fairway, but it's not more than about 150 yards. The surprise comes when you get ready to hit your approach shot and you notice the large oak tree protecting the front left of the green. You'll have to shape your shot, go really high, or bump and run it to the green. All in our group gave high marks to the course, except for one thing. Remember that the course is located in farm country. The proximity of farm animals and their waste products lent a definite atmosphere to the course on several holes. It was truly rank! Despite this one objection, I will probably be back to play the Blackberry Ridge.

Very Good Course

I rarely write reviews, but I had to since after 37 years of golfing I got my first hole in one on Hole 9 (140 yards PW). The staff was really great they all took time to say congratulations, took my picture, posted it online. The food is above average for golf courses, I would recommend even if your not a golfer or golfing. The course itself has plenty of tee boxes for various skill levels and different styles with some even in the links style.

Blackberry

Play was very slow that day. We were paired with another group of two which is fine. But there was a group of 5 in front of us that didn't keep pace and wouldn't let us pass. Course play took over 5hrs to do 18 holes

I've been a member at this course since 2010 and I think this year is the best condition I've seen it in. I'm out there during the week for league play and usually Saturday and/or Sunday as well. I've read some reviews about fivesomes and/or slow play; a majority of the time this is the members, but should let a single or twosome play through. And the past couple years I've noticed the course keeps getting busier, which is beneficial for the club.

The greens have never been so true and fast like they are this year, fairways are well manicured, and the rough is challenging with high risk, high reward. The food is phenomenal and reasonably priced for what you get (build-your-own-burger is my choice). They keep 2-3 beers always on tap and then rotate another 2-3 every month so there's always something new to try, plus many more in cans.

They got new carts last year that do not have GPS, so using a range finder or GPS app is beneficial as yardage is only marked at the 200, 150, 100, and scorecard. Avoid bunkers as much as possible. Unfortunately the drainage at the course is not great (it's better now than 2+ years ago), so the bunkers turn into mud pits making it very difficult to guess how the club and ball will go through the sand. The price is a bit much for central MN ($51 for 18 w/ cart on the weekends), but GolfNow has deals you can get (I've seen as low as $10 for 18 w/ cart). I mentioned the beer previously, but the prices for the craft beer are expensive.

Overall a very enjoyable experience; fall time is the best with the leaves changing colors and no mosquitoes!

a very nice course

very nice clubhouse, good parking , you can drive the carts to your car, tees always pretty good, fairways nice, good sand in bunkers, greens always roll good, some tough holes, generally some wind, this time they had let 5 somes out and they were pretty slow the course seems to be getting busier so play is taking a little longer, can get good rates on golfnow, would be nice if they went back to having drinking water on the course

You did not get what you pay for...

Played this course for the first time and was disappointed to say the least. The greens were in poor condition and looked the way greens look at the end of the summer. Dried out and very fast. They looked bad. There was also numerous ant hills on the greens and occasionally they needed to be swept away or they would interfere with the line of your putt. Overall course condition leaved a lot to be desire. Definitely not the condition a "Premiere Course" is supposed to be in. Not worth the high prices of green fees or food. I do not know if they are having problems with irrigation or grounds keeping staff, but something needs to be done to bring this course up to par...
