Hiawatha is a great track/good value w a solid layout. For the most part, its in good shape. There are about 4 temp greens atm. Hopefully that gets cleared up for 2024!

Billing issue

So i booked this tee time because it was a saver value booking, so was gonna emd up with 18 holes with cart for about $30 per player. I got to the course and they said that it was $50 per player and they had no idea why golfnow would have offered such a price......still waiting for some sort of resolution from Golfnow

Course in bad shape.

Some of the greens were unplayable. They'd have them ripped off. Some of the fairways were in bad condition too. The staff was very friendly and was able to bump up my tee time so I could play by myself.

Normal public course in HORRIBLE shape

Its my neighborhood course. Course was in ok-ish condition last year and better the year before that. This year many of the greens are covered in dirt patches (nearly 1/3 of the green) and the fairways are speedbumps. Only posting on the board hoping the team can see that the regulars aren't ok with it. I now golf Highlands National nearby which is in great shape and near the same price. This course needs to be discounted greatly at the condition that it is currently in. Massive overhaul needs to be done to get this course back to what it was even two years ago.

Staff is still great and they have a driving range which is convenient. Some around the area do not.

Damaged greens

Over half of the greens were badly damaged by some sort of equipment malfunction. This course should be discounting the cost to play and letting players know about the damage to the greens. Paying full price to play a badly damaged course makes me feel like I was ripped off. Me and my friends will not be coming back this season..

Good old course

It’s a shame the city doesn’t put any money towards this old course.

Course is a joke

Greens were brown, staff was rude, and overall was not a great experience.

Gentle and friendly

This is a great course for new golfers. Not too many traps. Not too much water. Other than one long par 3, everything is appropriate. Can be a little wet... if it’s been raining for more than a day, expect some puddles on a couple fairways.

You could do a lot worse than playing here

Muni Has Seen Better Days

Hiawatha Golf Course is an old parkland-style muni that has seen better days. Established in the 1930’s, the course was partially flooded in 2014 and its future is currently being debated by the Minneapolis Parks Board. It is likely that the course will close or be reduced to a nine-hole track. With that background, I decided to play the course while I could. Unfortunately, my overall impression was not very positive. The fairways are sketchy at best, with many bare spots. The greens are in fairly good condition, but relatively slow on the day I played. My playing partner, a regular at the course, said that they are usually slow. Tree coverage is moderately light, and it looks as though a lot of trees have been removed over the years. Water is prominent, with large and small ponds and a creek that meanders through the course coming into play on many holes. The course is mostly flat, with minimal elevation changes. There weren’t any truly memorable holes, although several were fairly challenging, requiring a tee shot to avoid ponds both right and left of the fairway. Once that was done, however, the rest was fairly straightforward. Greenside bunkers were not too deep and not hard to escape, but many had weeds growing in them. I was disappointed with my experience, because I really wanted to like the course. But when there are other Minneapolis munis in much better condition, playing the course again is not very likely.

Enjoyed playing here but was busier than expected on a Friday afternoon around 1pm. The course seemed to be in pretty good shape overall with nice views along the lake.
Will be playing this course again this season.

Time to close down the dying dinosaur

This course was once a nice place to come play a muni round after work in Minneapolis. It flooded and the fairways and rough and even teeboxes have never recovered.

It's kinda sad. the staff is really nice, the clubhouse is fine, the carts seemed to run... practice area is good.

just a waste of money and resources when there are other (better) mpls munis out there.
