Course condition and staff response
Before I start, I acknowledge that playing this late in the year is sketchy at best and you should
expect a rougher, leaf strewn environment.. however, most courses adjust prices dramatically for the conditions and at least attempt to continue to maintain the course…we arrived and were surprised that in mid November, they charged almost $40 for 18 and a cart… ok, we wanted to
play, we proceeded… I’m a decent golfer, no scratch player but can get around a course pretty well…balls we struck down the fairway were tough to find… anything outside the fairway, forget it… we spent a good deal of our time looking for balls that should have been easily found… it took more of my time to play the front nine than expected so I couldn’t play the back… I said my goodbyes to my fellow players and headed to the clubhouse to see if I could get a refund for the back nine I couldn’t play or a rain check (for at least next year). The office person said he had to check “outback” to see. He came back and said no rain checks and no refund for the back nine… short response , no sympathy and no explanation, no offer to talk to whoever made that call…I guess they have enough local loyal players to allow them to stay in business and don’t need outside participation… the six of us who were golfing will be avoiding this course in the future.
In great condition
Course was very well watered, well mowed, the only negative might be the greens could stand to be rolled for better putting. But for the season we are having with this drought, it was an excellent condition.
Beautiful layout
This nearly 100yr old course is truly unique. Surprisingly excellent conditions considering length, layout, and uncooperative weather. Well worth the visit.
Friendly staff. Course in good shape
Very pleasant time here. Clerk was friendly and course was well kept. Would recommend
Challenging but fair.
Three drivable par 4's for the long hitters. Great Course!
Interesting, old course
Don't let short yardage fool you. With plenty of blind tee shots - you cannot over power.
Short but challenging -
A few tight fairways, a few cool turns that you will need to think about. Two drive-able par 4's but with huge trees in the way so you have to be creative.
Wildlife seemed happy so that's a positive too.
Practice day
This is an interesting course with the front 9 being close to road and lots of geese droppings around. The back 9 across railroad tracks was very scenic along the river and the entire course the greens were slower but truer and easier to go for your putt. We had very few in front and behind so made for a nice day to practice and enjoy the course. One lady had her binoculars to view wildlife while her husband played!
Greens very slow
Played in June 2020. My buddy invited me to come and it was only $22 for 18 in a cart. He’s raved to me About it for years, especially for how fast the greens were. I am trying to be cognizant of the COVID crisis and it’s impact on course maintenance. With that said, and I do not mean this disrespectfully, but the greens were the slowest I’ve ever played on. They definitely hadn’t been cut in at least 2 days, but even still, were incredibly slow. That in and of itself made it a pretty disappointing day.
There are a few good holes, and I thought the back 9 was actually the better of the two sides, although they point out the front was designed by A.W. Tillinghast. One of the par 4’s on the back has an old tee box that you can hit over the lake, but it’s no longer used, and not playable now. A number of the holes on the front are short, drivable par 4’s.
Staff was very friendly, and they did have enough food available to make do. Obviously cost was cheap and pace of play wasn’t an issue. I think if they worked on the greens it could return to its former prestige, but I wouldn’t play it again in its current conditions.
Well designed, older, value course for the area.
A good design on a nice piece of land. The greens have definitely recovered from whatever issues they were having in years past as they rolled true and had no noticeable damage
No range, not much of a putting green, and the 1st tee being 3 steps from the parking lot puts a little pressure on you to start the round.
A.W. Tillinghast actually had some sort of hand in work/design of the front 9.
I'll be back to check out this quirky old course again.
Absolutely horrible
Absolutely horrible. The greens are the worst greens I have ever played on. They are disease and have it improved all season
Beautiful day for round of golf!
It was a gorgeous day for golf and pace was very good.
Excellent round of golf for the money!
Cutest little course
I love this course because it is fair for women if you can drive the ball straight you have eagle chances on the par 5's, it really is a fun course that allows you to utilize all of your clubs, the front 9 requires precision to score low but the beautiful back 9 let's you tee it high and let it fly, it's a great course for the money
greens need help
It was first time playing here liked the layout but the greens were horrible. Staff was friendly. It was pretty much what I expected for the price.
Greens damaged.
The course itself is ok, short with small greens and a quirky layout. However the greens were badly damaged with disease and/or fungus. The fairways and tee boxes were below average. Might be a good place to take young kids or other beginners.
We've re-done the course and the greens are now in terrific shape. Come back out and give us another try!
We're sorry to hear about your bad experience. We've completely re-done the course and it's in great shape. We'd love for you to come out and give us another try!
