A round at Crystal Downs Country Club in Frankfort comes with stunning views of Lake Michigan and Crystal Lake. Alister MacKenzie and Perry Maxwell teamed up in 1929 to design the course, giving it a traditional links design that includes imaginative bunkering, fescue rough, and rolling fairways. Like most links golf courses, wind will definitely be a factor but the greens are what make the layout a truly tough one. The pitch on some of the greens is quite intimidating, like on the second and 11th where the green drops more than 6 feet from back to front. Additionally, the tricky contouring and strategic bunker placement make the greens at Crystal Downs even more of a challenge.
